Guild Wars franchise expands into CCG genre with Mistbound

22 June 2026 at 16:00

ArenaNet and its parent company, NCSoft, have announced Mistbound, an official Guild Wars digital collectible card game developed in collaboration with bilibili.

The newly revealed title moves the franchise into the CCG genre following the recent announcement of Guild Wars 3. According to the publishers, the game's mechanics draw inspiration from the franchise's card-game roots, noting that character attributes in the original MMO mirrored deck-building customisation.

NC's design uses a 5ร—3 grid and dynamic movement as its core gameplay features. Deployed unit and commander cards can be repositioned turn by turn across the grid to counter opponent movements. Combat encounters will feature positional mechanics such as knockbacks, pulls, and flanking manoeuvres.

Familiar characters will step onto the grid as playable commanders, offering unique abilities alongside voice performances from series regulars. The soundtrack will also feature contributions from original Guild Wars musicians. There's no official release date for the title yet, though the project is currently in active development.

KitGuru says: Taking the Guild Wars into a grid-based tactical card game is an unexpected turn for the franchise, but mixing traditional deck-building with active grid movement could offer an interesting twist.
