A few days ago, we learned through a Saber Interactive executive that the long-awaited KOTOR Remake is targeting a 2028 release window. Now, a new report claims that the game could potentially land a little earlier than that, and we may see our first glimpse of the remake before the end of this year.

Star Wars fan channel, 100% Star Wars, claims in their latest video that they've heard from Saber developers that the KOTOR Remake was looking to hit a 2027 release to line up with the 50th Anniversary of the Star Wars franchise – something that Lucas Film has big plans for. However, with 2028 being the 25th Anniversary year for the original Knights of the Old Republic, they are also comfortable slipping into that year instead.

The video claims that development has been going “extremely well” and if things continue going on track, then there should be a re-reveal of the game later this year.

The Knights of the Old Republic Remake was first announced back in 2021 with a teaser trailer briefly showing Revan, the main character of the KOTOR story. At that time, the game was being made by Aspyr, but the project was later rebooted under Saber Interactive, who have been quietly working away on the game for the past several years.

It has been a long time since we've seen anything official regarding the KOTOR Remake, so a re-reveal later this year would be a hugely significant moment. However, I would have thought that Disney would have wanted to host the re-reveal themselves at a Star Wars Celebration event, rather than something like Gamescom ONL or The Game Awards.

It has been years since the Knights of the Old Republic Remake was first announced. Unfortunately, we haven't had any official news since, but Saber has reassured fans this week that the game is “still in development.

The KOTOR Remake was first announced for PS5 and PC in 2021. Initially, the game was being developed by Aspyr, the same studio responsible for handling modern KOTOR ports and a number of other Star Wars remasters. Somewhere along the way, the project ended up moving over to Saber Interactive and development started over again.

In a recent interview with IGN, Saber CCO, Tim Willits, said that the remake is “still in development” but they couldn't say much more at this time.

LucasFilm reportedly wants remakes of both of the original KOTOR games and may eventually want to make a third game as it looks to re-introduce the Old Republic timeline to fans. Aside from KOTOR Remake projects, original KOTOR director, Casey Hudson, formed a new studio last year to work on a ‘spiritual successor', titled ‘Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic' – and that game should be out within the next four years.
