After years of development, The Division Resurgence finally launched earlier this year, first for mobile devices, before making its way to PC last month. Now that the game is finally available on Steam, we can more easily see the fan reaction to it and as you would expect, very few like the game due to its mobile-style mechanics. 

The Division Resurgence takes place in New York City, utilising the same map as the original game. While the story is similar to The Division 1, the game is its own standalone adventure, with a plot that seemingly happens in parallel to the events of the first game without crossing over much.

As a mobile-first free to play title, Resurgence has a lot of mechanics that fans of the mainline games aren't too fond of. Many of the negative Steam reviews point to timed progression gates as their main gripe with the game. Currently in Resurgence, players can only obtain valuable loot by completing daily missions, and you only get a few of those each day, which heavily limits how fast you can progress. This works in mobile games because those players are likely only jumping in for 10 minutes at a time before moving on to other things. These same mechanics don't translate very well to PC, which has more of a ‘core' gaming audience who won't put up with these sorts of mechanics.

As XP and rewards become harder to obtain over long play sessions, the general sentiment seems to be that newcomers are better off just buying the original two games on sale and playing those instead. At this point, The Division 1 and 2 can both be obtained for extremely low prices, either through key sellers, or during sales periods on Ubisoft Connect and Steam. The Division 2 in particular is worth picking up as it is still actively updated to this day and offers the best of both games by including The Division 1's map as part of the Warlords of New York expansion.

Following the conclusion of their post-launch support for The Division 2, fans of the franchise had mostly been kept in the dark, with a number of projects (such as The Division Heartland) ultimately being cancelled before they could see the light of day. One project which did make it past the finish line was The Division Resurgence. In a surprise announcement, Ubisoft have now confirmed that the free-to-play mobile release is also available now on PC.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Division Resurgence page confirmed that “#TDResurgence is now available on PC through Ubisoft Connect!!!”

While an unexpected surprise, it appears as though a PC port was in the works for some time, with this latest release said to include full crossplay support with iOS/Android alongside both controller and keyboard/mouse inputs.

Of course, a proper 3rd entry in The Division is on its way, with early statements from Ubisoft claiming that it is “shaping up to be a monster”. With no release date nor any footage in sight however, The Division Resurgence should serve as a suitable replacement in the meantime.

Back during the early days of 2026, Ubisoft announced a surprise update for The Division 2, unveiling a new Realism mode in celebration of the franchise’s 10th anniversary. It appears as though this was just the start of The Division’s revival, with the publisher now sharing a roadmap full of new content planned throughout 2026.

Taking to their blog in celebration of the franchise’s 10th anniversary, the team at Ubisoft hosted a showcase featuring a ton of new and surprising updates coming to The Division 2.

From now until the 2nd of April, The Division 2 is hosting a month-long anniversary Season, bringing in the aforementioned Realism mode alongside other notable additions:

• Special Anniversary Event Pass featuring cross-Clancy collaboration items inspired by Rainbow Six Siege, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon
• Global Events inspired by the original game
• Free, permanent visual upgrade
• Free in-game Anniversary hoodie for all who log in
• Free access to the Warlord of New York expansion

This Anniversary Season is just the start however, with The Division 2 set to get even more in the coming months, including:

• PvP balancing and content updates
• Expanded crossplay across consoles and PC
• One new Incursion
• New Classified Assignments
• Survivors mode
• New DLC located in Central Park

Alongside all this, the team also finally gave an official release date for their mobile spin-off Resurgence, with the free-to-play MMO launching on the 31st of March.

The Division series has been in a weird spot for quite some time. Ever since the release of its sequel in 2019, the franchise has struggled to expand, with a number of in-development projects eventually being cancelled. While we continue to wait for The Division 3, it is interesting and exciting to see the previous game receive a second life of sorts.
