Insider claims Sony moved away from PC ports because they “didn’t make enough money”

22 June 2026 at 08:00

In recent weeks we’ve seen an increasing amount of talk surrounding PlayStation’s multi-platform plans and their decision to move away from porting their single-player first-party games to PC. While Sony has yet to share a definitive statement on the matter, notable insiders have revealed the primary reasons for this shift in strategy.

Recently we reported on comments from PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino who offered a diplomatic statement on the company's position with regards to multi-platform releases, stating:

“Our current main policy is that, for single-player games developed in-house, we will further refine the value of the gaming experience that PlayStation can offer. At the same time, we believe it is important for live-service games to reach a wider audience through online multiplayer, so we continue to view releases on both PS5 and PC as the standard.”

While not directly stated, this seemed to suggest that the rumours are indeed true. In response to these latest comments, trusted industry insider Jason Schreier offered more or a direct explanation on the matter, taking to ResetEra to write: “I guess they're not going to lay this out publicly, but there's no ambiguity in their strategy.”

Sony PC

Schreier continued, “During a townhall a few weeks ago, Hermen Hulst told staff that their single-player narrative games will be PlayStation only, and he explained that they were inconsistent with their PC releases, they didn't make enough money, and they want to keep their IP aligned to their own platform. Confirmed this with two people who heard him say it. There's no ‘case by case’ here.”

While we are unlikely to ever hear a definitive position from Sony themselves, Schreier’s statement does give clarity on the matter. PlayStation are quite selective when it comes to sharing sales numbers, but based on various data points it sounds about right.

Regardless of the reason, it seems like we have now gotten a pretty conclusive answer on the matter – even if it’s not from the horse’s mouth.

New Windows 11 Canary build brings Xbox Mode to multiple form factors

20 April 2026 at 15:30

Microsoft has officially announced the expansion of its “Xbox mode” interface to a broader range of Windows 11 devices, including laptops, desktops, and tablets. Previously limited to handheld devices, the updated console-style UI is now available in the Windows Insider Canary channel via build 29570.1000, bringing a streamlined gaming environment to traditional hardware.

The feature, formerly branded as the Xbox Full-Screen Experience, allows users to toggle between the standard desktop and a controller-optimised interface. Microsoft confirms that users can access Xbox mode through the Xbox app, the Game Bar settings menu, or by using the Win+F11 keyboard shortcut.

The decision to bring the UI to more form factors follows its widespread use on gaming handhelds. Microsoft notes that many laptops and tablets utilise similar APU and iGPU hardware to modern handheld systems, making the deployment of the console-like UI a logical progression. This update builds upon gaming UI improvements and display options recently introduced for mobile gaming devices.

Microsoft previously began testing the Full-Screen Experience on various form factors as early as November 2025. While the current rollout is restricted to the Canary channel (build 29570.1000), the expansion signals broader integration into Windows 11. No specific release window for the mainline Windows 11 version has been confirmed.

Xbox Insiders update brings more customisation, Quick Resume improvements and more

19 March 2026 at 10:00

Microsoft’s Xbox Insiders program has been a good way for the company to test out new and upcoming potential features prior to their wider release. The latest update, available now, introduces a ton of new customisation options alongside Quick Resume improvements; QoL features and more.

Taking to the Xbox Wire blog, Alex Charters – the Senior Product Manager at Microsoft – wrote: “Starting today, select Xbox Insiders can begin testing several highly requested updates coming soon to Xbox consoles. These features will roll out more broadly to additional Insiders and then to all players over time.”

Focusing primarily on expanding player options, this latest firmware update introduces:

  • More Groups on Home
    • Expanded from 2 to 10
    • Reorder and filter improvements
  • Full colour customisation
    • Applies to accents and your Guide
Update Xbox
  • New Quick Resume settings
    • You can now disable Quick Resume on a per-game basis
  • Profile badges added to the Guide
    • Showcases your 5 most recent badges

As mentioned, these features will roll out on a slow and steady basis and so it may take some time to appear on your end. Still, while relatively small in scope, all of the included improvements are highly welcome to see.
