Epomaker RT98 Review: A New Step In Modularity

18 April 2026 at 15:37

A white mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting and a small display showing '11:59:42' in the top right corner sits on a black mouse pad.

A large section of the PC gaming community loves modularity, and modular keyboards are not uncommon. Most modular keyboards offer customizations to the switch level, allowing you to swap the stock switches with different ones. RGB customizations are common even on non-modular keyboards, and that's something quite usual on most RGB keyboards. Epomaker took a different approach to modularity, and apart from swappable switches and RGB customizations, you are also seeing a swappable layout on its new RT98 keyboard. KiiBOOM showcases new Phantom98 Lite keyboard

20 March 2026 at 08:30

KiiBOOM, a peripheral brand that's been growing its operations, has revealed one of its new designs. We present the Phantom98 Lite, a cute keyboard that aims to bridge the gap between enthusiast-level customisation and out-of-the-box visual flair. This latest entry manages to squeeze a nearly full-sized experience into a trimmer 98% layout, retaining the essential numpad while reclaiming valuable desk real estate.

Available in green, pink, and translucent, the Phantom98 Lite pairs a glossy UV-glazed case with PBT dye-sublimated themed keycaps. Interestingly, KiiBOOM has integrated a magnetic nameplate that doubles as a hidden storage compartment for the 2.4G wireless receiver, ensuring you won't lose your dongle when transporting the keyboard.

Technically, the Phantom98 Lite is built utilising a gasket-mounted structure. This design provides a naturally cushioned typing feel and a cleaner, more consistent sound profile compared to traditional tray-mount boards. For those who enjoy fine-tuning their experience, the PCB is fully hot-swappable, making switch changes effortless. This hardware flexibility is matched by its VIA support, which enables users to remap every key and configure complex multi-layer macros through an intuitive interface. It's a setup that treats the keyboard as a living tool rather than a static peripheral.

Connectivity-wise, there's a triple-mode system that supports Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, and a standard wired USB-C connection. For those who frequently switch between operating systems, KiiBOOM has included a dedicated physical toggle for Windows and Mac modes, along with a set of Mac-specific keycaps in the box. Ergonomic touches, such as a wider 2U โ€œ0โ€ key on the numpad to prevent missed hits during data entry and two-stage adjustable feet, ensure the keyboard remains comfortable during long gaming and work sessions. Dynamic RGB lighting and anti-slip pads round out a package that feels remarkably complete for a keyboard that starts at $108.99.

KitGuru says: Cute keyboards are becoming a thing, and surprisingly, many of them don't sacrifice quality. Hopefully, this one is on the same boat. Would you get one of these stylised keyboards, or do you prefer something more subtle?
