Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 are officially being β€˜ported’ to modern PlayStation consoles

18 June 2026 at 10:15

Over the past few weeks, leakers and dataminers have uncovered evidence that the classic PlayStation 3 era Black Ops titles (BO1 and BO2) are seemingly being brought over to PlayStation 4 / 5 in one form or another. Following plenty of speculation, the team at Treyarch have now come out and made it official – revealing that the port is set to launch some time next month.

Following discoveries by dataminers that PlayStation’s back-end servers had received seemingly new listings for Call of Duty Black Ops (2010) and Black Ops 2 (2012), there has been a ton of speculation of what this will entail; whether it’s a remaster, a port, or something else entirely.

While we have yet to get the full suite of answers, the project’s existence has now been officially confirmed, with Treyarch taking to Twitter to write: β€œIt's official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at @IronGalaxy. Both will include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.”

Though certainly an exciting prospect given the fact that PS3 era titles are unplayable on modern PlayStation consoles due to a lack of backwards-compatibility with the system, many questions remain as to the extent of this port.
Presumably, this new release will at the very least boost resolutions significantly when compared to the PS3 originals (which could run as low as 540p), but anything beyond this is still up in the air.

That said, while confirmed to not be a remaster, hopefully this port will bring with it at least a couple more enhancements; namely an FOV slider and perhaps a 120fps option. As of right now however, nothing has been detailed, and so for all we know it could remain a low-res, low-FOV aliased mess – though hopefully not.

Iron Galaxy has plenty of experience working on game ports, ranging from the console version of Sleeping Dogs back in 2010 to Borderlands 2 on PS Vita and more recently Metroid Prime Remastered for the Nintendo Switch.

Across its repertoire however, the studio has also had its fair share of stinkers, including the infamous PC versions of Batman Arkham Knight and The Last of Us Part 1.

All that being said, it will be nice to finally have access to these classic COD entries in any form on a modern PlayStation console – though a few enhancements wouldn’t go amiss.

Iron Galaxy denies that it is working on Fallout remaster

4 March 2026 at 15:30

Earlier this week, Iron Galaxy appeared to be teasing something after posting about a company meeting, with an image attached of the Fallout β€˜Please Stand By' loading screen. Now after sending fans imaginations into overdrive, the studio has apologised.

It turns out, Iron Galaxy just uses the Fallout Please Stand By screen as a slide for its monthly meetings. The studio insists that it is not actually teasing a new game, such as a remaster for Fallout New Vegas.

β€œNope! There is nothing to see here. Sorry to disturb the volcanoes, but that was just a BTS look at our company meeting. We use that slide every month and has nothing to do with anything Fallout being worked on. As you can imagine, we love Fallout, too. Now pardon us as we retreat back into our vault”, Iron Galaxy said in its statement.

While a Fallout remaster does not seem to be in the works at Iron Galaxy after all, the studio would still be a good choice of partner studio for such a project. The company already has deep ties to Xbox via the Killer Instinct series, and it has worked with Bethesda on a number of Fallout projects previously as well.

KitGuru Says: As much as fans want to return to New Vegas, I do feel like we will see Bethesda's Fallout 3 remastered before we see Obsidian's game return.

Iron Galaxy may have teased a Fallout New Vegas remaster

3 March 2026 at 16:30

For years, fans have wanted to see Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas remastered for newer hardware. Development may have actually just begun on that exact thing, according to a teaser from Iron Galaxy Studios.Β

In a teaser image shared by the studio, Iron Galaxy declared that it had held its February meeting, attaching an image of the β€˜Please Stand By' loading screen from Fallout: New Vegas. The belief now is that Iron Galaxy has been tapped to aid in the development of a New Vegas remaster. So far, neither Iron Galaxy nor Bethesda have denied the rumour.

Iron Galaxy Studios has worked closely with both Xbox and Bethesda in the past, handling development for Killer Instinct 3, as well as providing support for projects like The Elder Scrolls Online, Skyrim (various ports) and Fallout 76.

Considering Iron Galaxy's history with Bethesda and the Fallout IP, the studio does make sense for helping out on a remaster. Hopefully it will match the same quality bar that Virtuos set with the Oblivion remaster.
