The team behind SplitGate have officially announced their Titanfall inspired ‘EMPULSE’

21 May 2026 at 08:30

Earlier this week, insiders claimed that 1047 Games – the team behind the SplitGate series – have been working on a spiritual successor of sorts to Respawn Entertainment’s beloved Titanfall, with Project Empulse said to be featuring advanced movement; grappling hooks; boost jumps and even giant pilotable mechs. In the wake of its early unveiling, 1047 Games have come right out and announced the game, with EMPULSE now officially being listed on Steam.

Publishing an official Steam page with a description, screenshots and more, 1047 Games have now unveiled EMPULSE: “an upcoming fast-paced 6v6 movement shooter” in which players will be able to “wallrun, grapple, Holojump, pilot mechs, and P.A.I.N.T. your way through Freehold's vertical streets.”

It seems the game will be taking movement even further than what was seen in Titanfall, with players being able to “wallrun forwards and backwards, swing with a grapple hook, launch off Holojumps, and alter surfaces with P.A.I.N.T. bombs to gain tactical advantage.”

As mentioned, we unfortunately have not gotten any video footage of the game, and so it is unknown exactly how these mechanics will look/function. That said, the screenshots shared do give some idea of what to expect, with much of the level design seemingly focused around verticality.

SplitGate team reportedly developing a Titanfall successor

18 May 2026 at 08:30

1047 Games found a ton of success back in 2019 when they released SplitGate: a fun and fast-paced arena shooter in the vein of classic Halo, while adding a twist in the form of portals which players could place around the map for strategic plays. While its sequel has failed to make the same level of splash, the team are apparently working on a brand new game – this one being inspired by Titanfall.

As reported by known insider Tom Henderson via Insider-Gaming, 1047 Games are said to be working on a spiritual successor of sorts to Respawn’s beloved Titanfall series, with “Pre-alpha gameplay footage sent to Insider Gaming” showcasing “players fighting in Team Deathmatch, using grappling hooks, wall running, and boost pads to quickly traverse around the map.”

Said to be currently titled project ‘Empulse’ the game is seemingly going all-in on the Titanfall vibes, with the game also including “giant mechs that are scattered around the map”. Footage sent to the publication reportedly showcases “a player grappling inside a mech and then dominating the match with the mech's primary Gatling gun.”

Of course, there will be core differences between project Empulse and Titanfall, but the inspiration is clearly there. While we will have to wait for an official announcement to learn about the game properly, Empulse is reportedly currently in pre-alpha – with plans to unveil the game scheduled for sometime “later this year.”

Two characters in futuristic armor and helmets are engaged in combat, one wielding a rifle labeled 'Falconer' on the left in blue and red, and the other in blue and silver on the right, set against a split red and blue background.

Ian Proulx, co-founder and chief executive officer of 1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate, had a small addendum to the studio's latest update video where it provided the remaining Splitgate players news and updates about the game. While Proulx began by reassuring fans of the portal shooter that it is "obviously, the focus," he went on to confirm that the studio is looking to fulfill its dream of being a multi-game studio. To that end, "a small section of the team" has been siloed off to start working on what Proulx called a "movement shooter," and specifically called out Titanfall […]
