SanDisk has introduced a new NAS‑focused SSD portfolio aimed at prosumers and small businesses upgrading older NAS hardware or moving towards all‑flash deployments. The SanDisk NAS 600 SATA SSD and NAS 800 NVMe SSD are built for higher endurance, consistent performance and multi‑user workloads.

The NAS 600 SATA SSD targets users replacing HDDs or adding solid‑state caching to hybrid NAS systems. SanDisk lists endurance ratings up to 2500TBW on the 4TB model, with sequential read speeds up to 560MB/s. The 2.5‑inch SATA form factor fits NAS bays that support 2.5‑inch SSDs, offering quieter operation and more responsive performance for collaborative environments. Capacities range from 500GB to 4TB.

The NAS 800 NVMe SSD is designed for all‑flash or hybrid NAS setups running demanding workloads. Built on PCIe 5.0, it offers endurance ratings up to 14PBW (7.68TB model), up to 2.3M/2M random read/write IOPS and sequential speeds up to 14,900MB/s reads and 13,200MB/s writes. The drive uses the M.2 2280 form factor and will be available in capacities from 960GB to 7.68TB.

Both drives will be available this September through SanDisk.com and select retailers. UK pricing has not yet been confirmed, but US pricing starts at $179.99 for the NAS 600 SATA SSD (500GB) and $309.99 for the NAS 800 NVMe SSD (960GB).

Synology has launched the DiskStation neo+ series, comprising the DS1825neo+, DS1525neo+, DS925neo+, and DS725neo+. Built on the existing DS Plus platform, these new models introduce a default 4GB non-ECC DDR4 memory configuration designed to lower upfront costs while coexisting alongside standard DS Plus units.

Base hardware across the lineup features built-in M.2 slots for SSD caching alongside 2.5GbE network ports. Storage capacity can be expanded using the DX525 expansion unit, while the DS1825neo+ and DS1525neo+ also include PCIe 3.0 slots for optional 10GbE or 25GbE network cards. Though they ship with non-ECC RAM, all four units support ECC memory upgrades up to 32GB as workloads grow. All models, including the DS925neo+, come with a 4-core Ryzen V1500B, except for the DS725neo+, which comes with a 2-core Ryzen R1600.

Software management runs on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), providing access to tools like Synology Drive for private cloud storage and cross-platform file synchronisation. System protection is handled via Active Backup Suite across Windows, Linux, macOS, virtual machines, and cloud accounts. Additionally, Surveillance Station supplies on-premises NVR functionality for multi-site security monitoring.

KitGuru says: Synology's neo+ lineup is a response to the increasing costs of memory. By swapping out default ECC memory for a 4GB non-ECC stick, Synology is offering a more budget-friendly entry point into its Plus Series ecosystem.

SilverStone has listed the CS240, a compact 21.65-liter Mini-ITX NAS case first showcased at Computex 2026. Built around four hot-swappable 2.5-inch U.2 drive bays, the enclosure supports high-speed storage configurations alongside full-sized hardware compatibility.

According to TechPowerUP, the case is mostly made of steel with an aluminium front door and a plastic front panel. The CS240 measures 211x285x360mm and features four external hot-swap bays operate in tri-mode, supporting NVMe U.2 (SFF-8639), SAS, and SATA drives up to 15mm thick. These bays connect via a backplane using dual SlimSAS 8i (SFF-8654) connectors, running PCIe 4.0 x4. Inside, an extra drive bay accommodates either one 3.5-inch drive or two 2.5-inch drives. Moreover, the case has 2x expansion slots.

Motherboard support includes Deep Mini-ITX and Mini-DTX form factors. As for graphics cards, there's space for one up to 300mm in length and 168mm in width, with an integrated support bracket to help it fit. CPU cooler clearance reaches 182mm tall, while power supply support covers SFX and SFX-L units up to 140mm long.

Three 120mm fans come pre-installed (one at the rear and two on the side), with the side panel also accommodating three 80mm fans instead. Liquid cooling builders can fit a single 120mm radiator at the back. Front panel I/O includes one USB-C port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a combo audio jack. While official pricing remains unannounced, Alternate lists the chassis for €349.

Ugreen is a relatively new player in the NAS world, but its range is rapidly expanding. It now includes ten products spanning from entry-level two-bay options up to eight-bay devices aimed more at businesses. The NASync DXP4800 Pro sits towards the top of Ugreen's selection, offering four bays and similar features to the NASync DXP4800 Plus released in 2024, but with a more powerful processor so more demanding supplementary workloads can be supported. We put the newcomer through its paces.

The big change with the DXP4800 Pro over the Plus is that instead of the 12th Gen Intel Pentium Gold 8505, it uses a 13th Gen Intel Core i3-1315U. Alongside the later generation, the Core i3 has six instead of five cores, and the additional core is of the Performance variety, so supports hyper-threading and both P cores run at up to 4.5GHz. That gives you eight threads instead of six and about 25 per cent better performance overall. The integrated graphics also offers better performance, which may not seem important in a NAS box, but we'll come to that later.

While both Pro and Plus come with 8GB of DDR5 memory as standard, the Pro can be upgraded to 96GB where the Plus maxes out at 64GB. Like the Plus, there's a built-in 128GB SSD for the operating system and applications, rather than flash memory. Alongside the quartet of 3.5in bays, you get a pair of NVMe PCIe 4.0 slots for caching or extra storage duties. You get both 10Gbit and 2.5Gbit Ethernet ports on the back, and an SD card reader on the front too, alongside USB slots, both Type A and Type-C.

In other words, this is a comprehensively specified NAS box on paper. Read on to find out whether it fulfils its potential.
