New Kingston IronKey LP50 G2 debuts with upgraded hardware encryption

Kingston has introduced the IronKey Locker+ 50 G2, a new hardware‑encrypted USB flash drive aimed at users who need stronger protection for portable data. The LP50 G2 uses FIPS 197‑certified, XTS‑mode AES‑256 hardware encryption and includes safeguards against BadUSB exploits and brute‑force password attacks.

The drive supports both Admin and User profiles, with password options split between a traditional 6-to-16-character complex mode and a 10-to-64-character passphrase mode. Kingston has added quality‑of‑life features such as an optional password‑reveal toggle, a virtual keyboard to mitigate keyloggers, and an anti‑fingerprint metal casing designed to resist wear. Incorrect password attempts are tightly controlled: ten consecutive User failures lock the profile, while ten incorrect Admin attempts trigger a crypto‑erase.

The LP50 G2 requires no software installation and works with both Windows and macOS systems. Kingston says the launch completes its transition to an all‑XTS‑AES‑256 IronKey lineup, with the company also highlighting its existing FIPS 140‑3 Level 3‑validated models for higher‑security environments.

Kingston will offer the IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 in capacities from 32GB to 256GB, backed by a five‑year warranty.
