Bethesda warns fans that Fallout 4 and Skyrim will be getting new updates

17 August 2026 at 08:30

Typically, the announcement of a new video game update is met with excitement, as fans look forward to whatever new content / fixes are in store. When it comes to Bethesda though, updates are far less celebrated due to the fact that they often break mods and can even lead to new issues. In service of giving fans a heads-up, BGS has announced that both Fallout 4 and Skyrim will be receiving updates this year.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Bethesda Game Studios page gave fans the following warning:

β€œOn Tuesday, August 18th, a patch will be coming to Fallout 4 focusing on general Creations improvements. As a precaution, prior to these updates we encourage players to log into your game save if you haven't done so in a while or manually save your load order. Once your load order is saved, you'll be able to re-download your entire Creations list at once when the update is live.”

The team also confirmed that an update to Skyrim will be arriving at some point in the near future, with details promised to be shared β€œsoon.”

As mentioned, Bethesda more so than any other developer needs to be conscious of its update frequency owing to the fact that countless mods can be made unusable at the press of a button – requiring direct support from the developer in order to get it working again.

While it appears as though this upcoming Fallout 4 update won’t offer anything new, it is at least encouraging to see Bethesda giving players warning ahead of time.

Fallout 4 launches with multiple performance and graphics modes for Switch 2

25 February 2026 at 15:45

When Bethesda rolled out the Switch 2 patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, fans were disappointed by the graphics upgrade and lack of performance mode. This had many wondering if Fallout 4 on Switch 2 would also ship in a fairly barebones state. As it turns out, a lot of effort has clearly gone into this new version of Fallout 4.Β

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is now available on the Switch 2 console. Unlike Skyrim, Fallout 4 has access to multiple performance modes on day-one, including a standard 30FPS mode, a 40FPS mode and a 60FPS performance mode.

Players on Reddit also seem to be happy with the Switch 2 version of Fallout 4, with the new version receiving tons of praise for its stability and performance mode options.

Skyrim fans on Switch 2 can also now update their games with a new 60FPS patch to get more performance there too. In the coming months, Bethesda will have more high-profile titles joining the Switch 2 library, including Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
