Orico has announced its new Orico CNM2-U4-GY portable SSD enclosure, offering a simple way for users to turn an M.2 NVMe SSD into a high-speed external storage device. The new enclosure comes with USB4 support and can deliver transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps when connected to compatible devices.

The CNM2-U4-GY supports M.2 NVMe SSDs with PCIe 4.0 x4 connectivity. It is compatible with several SSD sizes, including 2230, 2243, 2260, and 2280, giving users more flexibility when choosing a drive. Orico says the enclosure can handle SSD capacities of up to 8TB.

One of the main highlights of the enclosure is its USB4 interface. When connected through USB4, the SSD is detected as an NVMe device for maximum performance. The enclosure also works with older USB standards. When used with USB 3.2 Gen 2Γ—2 or older ports, it switches to USB mass-storage mode and supports UASP for improved performance.

To help keep temperatures under control, Orico has equipped the enclosure with an aluminium alloy body and a built-in 20 mm cooling fan. The metal housing helps spread heat, while the fan provides active airflow during heavy workloads.

Inside, the enclosure uses the ASMedia ASM2464 controller, which handles USB4 connectivity, storage communication, and power management through a single-chip design.

Orico includes a USB4 Type-C cable in the box. The cable also features a fixed Type-C to Type-A adapter for wider compatibility. However, users should note that performance drops to 10 Gbps when connected through a USB Type-A port.

The Orico CNM2-U4-GY USB4 SSD enclosure is priced at around $70, making it an interesting option for users looking for fast portable storage without buying a pre-built external SSD.

ASUS has introduced a new external SSD enclosure called the ProArt PA40SU. It is made for creators who need fast and stable storage in a small and easy-to-carry design.

The biggest highlight is USB4 support. This allows transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps. This means users can move large files like 4K videos and project data much faster. It is a useful option for video editors, photographers, and anyone working with big files.

The ProArt PA40SU SSD enclosure supports NVMe M.2 SSDs in both 2230 and 2280 sizes. This gives users more flexibility when choosing storage. Whether it is for backups, editing work, or daily file transfers, the device is built to handle heavy tasks.

To keep performance stable, ASUS has added a smart cooling system. It comes with a four-level fan and a thermal pad. This helps control heat during long use and reduces slowdowns. In company testing, the device was able to transfer up to 2960 GB of data in just 30 minutes without major drops in speed.
