Apple’s AR Glasses To Replace The Vision Pro Lineup For Its Mass Market Appeal, But Display-Equipped Spectacles Still Several Years Away

3 June 2026 at 19:36

Apple's AR glasses to be given priority over the Vision Pro series

The Apple Vision Pro may have been a commercial failure if the product is compared to sales brought in by other devices, but it has managed to create a stepping stone towards something that would be accepted by the masses; AR glasses. An analyst believes that the company scrapping the Vision Pro family in favor of these smart spectacles is the right call because these lightweight accessories have a higher chance of getting accepted by consumers. Unfortunately, one particular model with display functionality isn’t expected for several years. While Apple’s first-generation AI glasses are expected to ship in 2027, the […]

Samsung and Google team up for new smart glasses

21 May 2026 at 14:30

Samsung and Google have unveiled their new smart glasses at Google I/O 2026, showcasing two styles developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The glasses are engineered as phone companions, allowing users to access Google's Gemini AI and smartphone features via voice commands.

The hardware integration combines Samsung's engineering with Google's AI technology, while each eyewear partner provides a distinct visual approach. Gentle Monster's designs emphasise a trendier aesthetic, whereas Warby Parker offers traditional frame designs.

The eyewear provides hands-free assistance by allowing users to request navigation routing, ask Gemini for local suggestions, and place pickup orders via voice commands. The system also handles incoming text message summaries, calendar entry management, and real-time audio translation that matches the speaker's voice. Additionally, the integrated cameras enable the device to translate physical text, such as menus or signage, directly in the user's line of sight, alongside standard photo-capture functions in the Galaxy ecosystem.

The first wave of smart glasses is set to launch later this year. Samsung and Google state that additional product details and pricing will be announced closer to release.

Asus ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses hit the market

15 May 2026 at 14:00

ASUS ROG and XREAL previewed their ROG XREAL R1 gaming AR glasses a while back, promising a 240Hz micro-OLED display that can be used to play games on a massive virtual screen. As of today, pre-orders are officially opening up, with worldwide shipping to begin in June.

First shown at CES 2026, the R1 has since undergone additional tuning across hardware and software, resulting in tighter integration with the wider ROG ecosystem. The glasses are compatible with a broad range of handhelds and PCs. The key hook for the R1 glasses though is the fact that it allows you to play games or watch movies on a giant 171-inch virtual display.

Thanks to the Micro-OLED panel used here, gamers will also be happy with the 240Hz refresh rate and ultra-low 0.01ms response times, enabling low-latency gaming with minimal blur. Users can even anchor the display to a fixed point in their environment for optimal viewing.

When using the virtual display, the lenses automatically adjust tint levels based on room lighting and head position. On the PC side of things, you can use the ROG Control Dock and DisplayWidget Center for easy keyboard and mouse control over the virtual screen layout.

The ROG XREAL R1 will cost $849 in the US. We are still waiting to see what UK pricing ends up being set at.

KitGuru Says: What do you think of the ROG XREAL R1? Is this something you would like to try out for gaming?
