PlayStation 6 Bill of Materials Is Now Very Close to the Dreaded $1,000 Line, But a Delay Still Isn’t Likely

A PlayStation 6 console on a pedestal with glowing blue accents is featured beside the 'PS6 PlayStation.6' logo.

Almost exactly three months ago, renowned AMD leaker Kepler_L2 claimed that Sony's current BoM (bill of materials) for the upcoming PlayStation 6 console was around $760, thus floating the possibility that the console could be priced at $699 with an initial subsidy from the Japanese corporation. Fellow leaker Moore's Law Is Dead reported a very similar BoM ($743) just days later. However, the component crisis is worsening almost weekly. We've seen that Valve was forced to launch its Steam Machine at $1049, about $300 more than the price it originally targeted, and Microsoft also had to substantially increase the pricing […]

Rockstar Reportedly Has No Plans for GTA VI Physical Disc, Not Even After Launch, Despite Rumors

A PlayStation 5 game case for GTA VI featuring illustrated characters and scenes against a city skyline backdrop.

Back in January, the Polish website PPE shared a worrying rumor about GTA VI: according to their sources, Rockstar and Take-Two were planning a digital-only launch of the highly anticipated game, primarily to avoid spoilers. This was later denied by both Rockstar and Take-Two, though when pre-orders opened earlier this week, customers learned that the physical copy they would buy at a retailer included only a download code, not an actual disc. This was inevitably a source of disappointment for many, especially those who might have been interested in seeking a second-hand copy at a lower price sometime after release. […]

Quantic Dream Developers Strike to Save Star Wars Eclipse, Warning that 115 Layoffs Would Doom the Unfinished Game

The image shows the 'Star Wars: Eclipse' logo on the left and Quantic Dream's David Cage on the right.

A couple of days ago, some employees of French developer Quantic Dream staged a strike in front of the studio's Paris headquarters in an attempt to save both up to 115 colleagues (who are on the verge of being laid off) and the studio's big Star Wars Eclipse project. Let's hit the rewind button for a minute. The development of Star Wars Eclipse, formally announced at The Game Awards 2021, has reportedly "simmered" for years as the studio struggled in many areas, including hiring new talent. Then, in late 2025, Quantic Dream announced another game, the 3v3 MOBA Spellcasters Chronicles, […]

EA’s Laura Miele Champions AI as Creativity Accelerant, Echoing Epic’s Tim Sweeney Even as ‘Slop’ Fears Linger

Abstract digital artwork featuring chains and colorful shapes with the text 'Electronic Arts x stability.ai'.

Electronic Arts executive Laura Miele, a 30-plus-year veteran at the American publisher, was recently featured on The Game Business Show and talked about various topics, including, of course, how the publisher is using AI in its development process. Back in late 2024, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was one of the very first major gaming executives to openly state that generative AI would soon be at the "very core of business", allowing greater efficiency, expansion, and transformation. Now that it's been over a year and a half since that statement, when asked whether AI tools can expedite the increasingly long game […]

Tim Sweeney Admits Epic’s Unreal Engine AI Tools Risk ‘AI slop’, but Calls them an Accelerant for Real Creators

Epic president Tim Sweeney wearing glasses and a dark jacket is speaking in front of a glowing logo featuring a stylized Unreal Engine 6 logo.

At last week's Unreal Fest in Chicago, Epic Games unveiled the integration of AI tools like Claude and Gemini into Unreal Engine 5.8 (and the upcoming Unreal Engine 6) through an MCP server. As with all things related to AI, the news received a somewhat mixed response from the development and gaming community, especially as fears of "AI slop" become rampant. In an interview with IGN, Epic Games founder, CEO, and majority shareholder Tim Sweeney admitted that there's the risk of that, but likened it to the "asset flip" of this new generation of games, asserting that low quality games […]

Sony Claims GTA VI “Plays Best” on PS5 With DualSense Tricks, Yet Stays Silent on PS5 Pro

Jason and Lucia stand back-to-back in a tropical setting at sunset in the game 'Grand Theft Auto VI,' with palm trees silhouetted in the background.

Following the official GTA VI pre-order details shared today by Rockstar Games, Sony is now boasting through the PlayStation Blog that the massively anticipated game will "play best" on PlayStation 5. Sony said it partnered closely with Rockstar to leverage the console's key features, such as the 3D audio enabled by the Tempest Engine, which will allow players to fully immerse themselves in Leonida's distinct soundscape with enhanced, highly accurate audio positioning, bringing each unique situation to life. The PS5's SSD enables "near-instant load times" while moving across the state of Leonida. The main differences, however, are enabled by the […]

Asobo Reinvents A Plague Tale With Resonance, Trading Stealth for Sophia’s Dagger-And-Sword Action Combat, But Puzzles Are the Real Highlight

A promotional image for 'Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy' showing protagonist Sophia, a character with curly hair holding two knives, set against a landscape with ancient ruins and a group of warriors.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, the third installment in Asobo Studio's acclaimed action/adventure series, finally materialized in the form of a remote preview organized by publisher Focus Entertainment around two months ahead of the launch date. According to Studio Asobo, Resonance has been in development for nearly four years following Requiem's release. The team expanded to roughly 80 developers over that period specifically to support the shift toward an active combat-driven protagonist, which producers identified as one of the project's biggest creative challenges. Asobo has stated that the production budget is in line with previous entries in the series, despite […]

Finding the Fun Is Still Human Work for 20+ Years, But AI Could Spark a New Gaming Renaissance, Says Dev

A collage showing characters from various PlayStation games under the 'PlayStation Studios' logo next to the 'Unreal Engine 6' logo on a dark background. Both Unreal Engine and PlayStation Studios have embraced AI.

Epic's recent announcement that Unreal Engine 5.8, and even more so the upcoming Unreal Engine 6, include integration with Claude and Gemini (as well as support for custom models) to "greatly reduce the tedious work in authoring content to leave more time for creative exploration, and increase the amount of iterations a team can make to polish their content" was predictably met with skepticism from the anti-AI crowd. Still, that's not a universal reaction. Other veteran developers, such as Rich Vogel (whom I interviewed a few months ago on the state of the MMO genre), are far more pragmatic and […]

Kojima's OD, Bethesda's TES VI and Arkane's Blade

In Entertainment Weekly's piece about the 25th anniversary of Xbox and the studio's push for Hollywood adaptations (including a Sea of Thieves movie), we also got a few more updates about some of the most interesting Xbox projects, including Kojima's OD, Bethesda's TES VI, and Arkane's Marvel's Blade. Let's start with The Elder Scrolls VI, which is definitely the biggest of these projects in terms of fanbase. Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Game Studios, acknowledged the pressure of having to "get it right", as well as the long wait since 2011's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. TES VI is our […]

Valve’s Steam Machine Pre-Orders Open at $1049, but the Memory and Storage Crisis Pushed Prices Far Higher Than Hoped

A gaming console, Valve's Steam Machine, and controller with a Steam logo are displayed against a neutral background.

Valve has just kicked off pre-orders for its long-awaited Steam Machine, offering four options: two with 512GB of storage and two with 2TB, with one of each pair bundling a Steam Controller. The prices are indeed quite high, as feared following the storage and memory crisis. The basic Steam Machine (512GB, no controller) costs $1049, while adding a controller to it makes it $1128. The base 2TB version costs $1349, while the 2TB Steam Machine with a controller will set you back $1428. The 2TB versions also include two extra faceplates in red fabric and solid walnut colors. SKU Price […]

Marvel’s Wolverine – Everything You Need to Know About Insomniac’s Brutal, Dark Logan Adventure

A promotional image for Marvel's Wolverine shows the character in a dynamic pose with claws extended against a yellow background.

Marvel's Wolverine is undoubtedly shaping up to be one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusives in years. Developed by Insomniac Games — the same studio behind the widely acclaimed and best-selling Marvel's Spider-Man games — in collaboration with Marvel Games, it marks the team's first attempt at a Mature-rated, visceral action game built around one of Marvel's most iconic and brutal characters. The last game to be solely focused on Wolverine was 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a fairly mediocre tie-in of the namesake film developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. Needless to say, the expectations for this […]

GTA 6 Price Fears Spike as Leaked FNAC SKUs Show €90 Base and €119.99 Premium Edition Days Before Pre-Orders Open

Artwork for 'Grand Theft Auto 6' featuring various characters and scenes, including helicopters, speedboats, and motorcycles.

The pricing question has hounded Grand Theft Auto 6 for the past couple of years, ever since Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter suggested that Rockstar Games could price the game at $100 and get away with it. Several other analysts have since scoffed at the idea, but now that we are mere days from the opening of pre-orders (scheduled for Thursday, June 25) on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X, the discovery that the Portuguese version of FNAC (a multinational retail chain that operates across France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, and several other markets) has listed the game […]

CD Projekt RED CEO Admits Cyberpunk 2077’s Redemption Arc Isn’t Complete, but Hopes The Witcher 4 Wins Back Fans

A split image showing Johnny Silverhand from 'Cyberpunk 2077' and Ciri from a 'The Witcher 4' game, both made by CD Projekt RED.

CD Projekt RED famously suffered a major hit to its sterling reputation with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, mainly because of the major bugs and terribly underwhelming console performance on previous-generation hardware, which forced Sony to remove the game from the PlayStation Store until it was fixed a few months later. The Polish studio worked very hard to resolve all these technical issues and further improve the game's features and content, culminating in the release of Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, both of which were extremely well received and made the game very appealing to gamers once again […]

The popular free-to-play open world Wuxia action RPG Where Winds Meet, already available on PC, PlayStation 5, Android and iOS, launched on Xbox Series S and X earlier this month, featuring exclusive benefits for Game Pass subscribers. The announcement also included a tease for the game's third major expansion, titled Hidden Mountain and slated for a July launch. Game Pass Could’ve Worked, Moon Studios Boss Says, But Xbox Never Delivered the Big Hits It Needed

Promotional artwork for Starfield featuring various characters and a robot, with the Xbox Game Pass logo prominently displayed.

The ongoing issues at Xbox, with several studios at risk of being shut down (chiefly Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, and Double Fine Productions) and more layoffs sadly rumored to be on the way, have inevitably become a topic of discussion among industry members, even publicly. Replying to Duke Nukem creator George Broussard, who had wondered "where did Game Pass come from?", Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler (Ori, No Rest for the Wicked) tweeted his theory that Game Pass is "a little like Communism" in that it does not give developers the incentive to "go the extra mile". Ultimately, he mused, […]

CAPCOM Might Be Moving Onimusha: Way of the Sword up to September 4, as Fans Argue It Needs More Time

Two characters in the game Onimusha: Way of the Sword stand back-to-back, each holding a sword, with a dramatic, mystical background.

We've previously highlighted the utter craziness of the September release schedule, and the craziest part of it all was the fact that Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Control Resonant, and Silent Hill: Townfall all released in the span of two days (September 24-25). However, it seems like CAPCOM might be about to move Onimusha out of the way, advancing its release date to September 4. That's the new date listed by Canadian retailer PNP Games, though no other major retailer has updated it yet. They might be ahead of everyone else, or it might be simply a mistake. CAPCOM has […]
