Black Myth: Wukong reaches 30 million sales milestone

Game Science's action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong has reportedly reached 30 million copies sold globally, according to a recent data update. The title previously set a record on Steam, peaking at over 2.2 million concurrent players during its initial launch period in 2024.

The updated sales figure comes via data released by the Communist Youth League of China (via Eurogamer), bumping the lifetime sales up from the 24 million copies to 30 million. Reports indicate a significant portion of these total sales came from international markets outside of China. Steam's still the most dominant platform for purchases, while the PlayStation 5 version ranks second.

At launch in 2024, the action-RPG reached a concurrent player count of more than 2.2 million on Steam alone. That milestone established a Steam record for single-player games, putting it ahead of titles like Counter-Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur's Gate 3, and Palworld.

The game's sales velocity notably outpaced other major industry hits. For comparison, Elden Ring required roughly three years to reach similar figures, while Cyberpunk 2077 took about five years to hit equivalent numbers, including its post-launch recovery period.

Gothic 1 Remake surpasses 500K copies sold in first week

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have announced that Gothic 1 Remake sold over 500,000 copies during its first week across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The reimagined 2001 cult RPG also saw significant player engagement on Steam, peaking at nearly 78,000 concurrent players on June 7th.

Player feedback remains favorable, with the title gathering more than 21,000 Steam reviews and maintaining an 86% “Very Positive” rating. Game critics weren't as nice, with the game sitting at 72% (34 reviews) on OpenCritic, with only 55% recommending it.

Alkimia Interactive attributed this initial traction to a mix of newcomers and long-time fans of the 25-year-old franchise. Consequently, the studio plans to deliver ongoing support through further updates and refinements over the coming months.

This modern iteration features over 50 hours of gameplay content. It reconstructs the Kingdom of Myrtana and the Khorinis mines, where players control the Nameless Hero and navigate among three joinable factions. According to the publishers, the release includes a living world with scheduled daily NPC routines, as well as a modernised tactical combat system that preserves the original title's identity.

New indie hit reaches 1 million sales on Steam

Tenstack has announced that its cooperative title, Gamble With Your Friends, has sold one million copies within its first week of release. The game, which launched on May 1st, surpassed the 500,000-unit mark by May 4th, then reached the one-million milestone.

The title features a cooperative premise in which up to six players attempt to earn virtual currency within a five-minute window to repay an in-game loan shark. Gameplay involves various virtual casino activities, including blackjack and roulette. The game utilises virtual currency only, with no real-world money involved in the gameplay mechanics.

According to a developer statement on Reddit, the game's commercial performance is attributed to streamer engagement and effective marketing. The project was developed in under 9 months and underwent a full reboot during development to focus on the gambling-themed cooperative loop.

The sales figures place the title's opening-week performance on par with recent major releases, such as Capcom's Pragmata. Something that might have contributed to the game's success is that Tenstack priced the title at £6.69/€7.79/$7.99 on Steam.
