Pokémon Pokopia becomes Koei Tecmo’s best-selling game of all time
The Pokémon series remains one of the most successful media franchises of all time, with pretty much any and all games released being a success in one form or another – regardless of quality. That said, in a moment of celebration, the highly-praised Pokémon Pokopia has managed to be both a critical and commercial success, currently sitting as Koei Tecmo’s best-selling game of all time.
Making the official announcement via a press release, Nintendo / The Pokémon Company revealed that Pokémon Pokopia (which launched on the 5th of March) has already hit a major sales milestone, having “surpassed 5 million units across physical and digital versions, just over four months after its launch.”
For a Pokémon game, this may seem somewhat quaint, with the relatively maligned Pokémon Legends Z-A selling over 5.8 million copies in its first week. That said, for a Switch 2 exclusive developed by Omega Force, 5 million in 4 months is massive – marking the best-selling game of all time for the studio (and Koei Tecmo as a whole).
While it has not been updated in a few years, based on public data, the previous record holder went to another Nintendo-published title: Fire Emblem: Three Houses (which sold around 4.1 million copies).
What this means for the future of Omega Force / Koei Tecmo is unknown. That said, hopefully the success of Pokopia affords the team more time and budget to work on their future projects.
KitGuru says: What do you think of Pokémon Pokopia? Are you one of the 5 million? What’s your favourite Pokémon spin-off of all time? Let us know down below.

Nintendo may be preparing to bring more classic Pokémon games to the Switch and Switch 2 later this year. A new rumour claims that the original versions of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald could be next in line for re‑release.
The rumour originates from leaker Shpeshal_Nick, who has been accurate with some Nintendo leaks in the past, including early details on the Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo typically hosts a major Nintendo Direct around September each year, so if this rumour is accurate, Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald could be announced during that showcase and released immediately, or soon afterwards, as was the case with Fire Red and Leaf Green earlier this year.
If true, then it would seem that the strong sales of Fire Red and Leaf Green on the Switch has encouraged Nintendo to finally bring more of its classic Pokémon games to modern platforms. By doing this, Nintendo could also combat the prevalence of ROMs and unofficial emulators, which many long‑time fans now rely on to revisit these older adventures.
What makes this rumour particularly interesting is the inclusion of Pokémon Emerald. Emerald combines content from both Ruby and Sapphire into one expanded adventure, and many fans may choose to buy Emerald alone rather than picking up both Ruby and Sapphire individually. While Ruby and Sapphire did receive 3DS‑era remakes, these new releases, if real, are expected to be simple ports of the original GBA versions, with no updated assets or gameplay changes.

KitGuru Says: Fire Red and Leaf Green returning earlier this year was a pleasant surprise, and it seems Nintendo may now be ready to bring more of its classic Pokémon catalogue forward. Emerald in particular would be a standout addition. Would you pick up the originals again if they arrived on Switch?

Pokémon Pokopia has been one of the more welcome surprises of 2026, offering an excellent package that simultaneously delivers both innovation and classic charm. Fans have taken notice, with the game selling over 4 million copies in the short time it's been available, and Nintendo is following up fairly quickly with strong post-launch support. The Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass will eventually deliver three waves of new content, with Part 1, entitled Bubbly Basin, recently dropping alongside a free 2.0 update. Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation launches to solid reviews
After spending the past 3 decades working almost exclusively on Pokemon titles, Game Freak surprised many when they announced Beast of Reincarnation – a fast-paced and visually impressive action-RPG unlike anything else the studio has made before. Alongside its official launch, reviews for the game have now gone live, showcasing a game which seems to fall just shy of its great potential.
With a Metacritic score of 73 and an Open Critic rating of 76, Beast of Reincarnation has failed to reach the heights of their last mainline Pokemon game (Legends Z-A with a Metacritic score of 78) but did manage to beat out 2022’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (which achieved a 71).
Described as a “surprisingly strong action title from Game Freak”; a “bold new step” for the studio and a “compelling” entry with “firm but fair combat”, Beast of Reincarnation does seem to have quite a bit going for it.
Unfortunately, all is not perfect, with some of the game’s primary issues being its over-ambition; a narrative which did not resonate with all; and somewhat uninspired level design.
Between Pokemon and Beast of Reincarnation, there is a clear step up on quality pretty much across the board. Unlike pokemon however, the genre which Beast of Reincarnation is trying to enter is far more competitive – making expectations rather high.
Even so, Beast of Reincarnation proves that Game Freak is able to offer far more than what Nintendo typically have them working on. It will be interesting to see what the studio chooses to do from here on out.
KitGuru says: What do you think of Beast of Reincarnation so far? Objectively, how does it compare to their other games? What genre would you like to see Game Freak take a stab at next? Let us know down below.

Unlike with the arrival of the Switch 1 back in 2017, Nintendo’s sequel system did not launch with a bonafide console-seller in the vein of Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild. One of the Switch 2’s big success stories so far however has been the Animal Crossing-esque Pokemon Pokopia. Following its release earlier this year, Nintendo has now detailed and dated the game’s previously-announced Expansion Pass.
During Nintendo’s Summer Direct, the console maker officially announced and confirmed that Pokemon Pokopia would be receiving a suite of DLCs in the form of a 3-part Expansion Pass. At the time, details were light on the matter, with the primary revelation being that Part 1 of the DLC – Bubbly Basin – would be arriving some time in August.
With July almost at an end, Nintendo has now released an ‘extended trailer’ detailing what players can expect from Bubbly Basin when it arrives (confirmed to be on the 5th of August).
Set to introduce “an entirely new underwater town for Ditto to rebuild and explore” part 1 of this DLC will allow for “three-dimensional builds that are only possible underwater” while also introducing new crops such as watermelons; additional water-type pokemon; new furniture designs; a new Dream Island and plenty of story content.
Offering a bit more on the rest of the Expansion Pass, DLC 2 is expected to launch some time in late 2026, and while it will not bring with it a new region, the DLC will mark the debut of Accessories as a feature. Last but not least, Part 3 of the DLC will go live sometime next year and will introduce another new town.
Between Pokemon Pokopia, Tomodachi Life and Animal Crossing’s big update, Switch 2 owners are not lacking in the way of simulation / society-building games.
KitGuru says: What do you think of Bubbly Basin? Is the Expansion Pass worth it? Does the Switch 2 have a game which you would consider a console-seller? Let us know down below.

Palworld took the ‘world’ by storm when it first launched into Early Access back in 2024. While much of the initial discourse surrounded the fact that the game seemed to take heavy inspiration from the likes of Pokemon, the game itself is a different beast entirely, offering an interesting blend of open-world survival-crafting alongside monster collecting. 2 and a half years on from launch, Palworld is finally set to hit version 1.0, with the team revealing that the game has amassed over 40 million players during this time.
Releasing a video to celebrate the milestone, studio PocketPair officially revealed that since the game’s Early Access launch in January 2024, Palworld has amassed over 40 million players – just in time for its 1.0 release on the 10th of July (tomorrow).
Of course, 40 million players does not equate to 40 million copies sold, with Palworld being a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass. Even so, the team reported shortly after launch that it had sold over 6 million copies in 4 days – meaning full sales numbers are likely far greater by now.
Regardless of sales however, this marks a major moment for Palworld, with the game finally set to leave Early Access. While we have yet to get full patch notes for the upcoming update, it looks to be rather meaty, with the team previously teasing over 27 pages worth of fixes and additions.

The audio aspect is handled by the Razer Kraken V4 X – Espeon & Umbreon Edition, a wired gaming headset featuring custom earcup cushions and integrated Chroma RGB lighting. For the keyboard, the collection introduces the Razer Ornata V3 Tenkeyless – Espeon & Umbreon Edition. This low-profile keyboard utilises mecha-membrane switches and features a magnetic wrist rest.

Palworld has had an interesting existence ever since the survival crafter released into Early Access back in 2024. Pokemon comparisons aside, the game has garnered a ton of success thanks in part to the devs at Pockpair’s continued support with new and welcome additions. As they announced previously, Palworld is finally set to hit version 1.0 soon. Offering a tease of what to expect, the devs revealed that the update is coming with 27 pages worth of patch notes.
Taking to Twitter to tease the upcoming update, Bucky-cm – the head of publishing and communications at Pocketpair – revealed just how big patch 1.0 will be for the game, writing:
“Losing my mind trying to make nice patch notes for Palworld 1.0…who'd have thought that, *checks notes*, 27 pdf pages of changes and additions would be hard to make neat.”
Of course, while a solid portion of these pages are likely to consist of minor changes and bug fixes, this still represents a massive update for Palworld – especially with most major updates for games running a maximum of a couple pages in length.
We will have to wait for the patch notes to be released in order to gain a full understanding of everything being added. That said, some of 1.0’s features have already been announced, including new Pals to collect; an expansion to the World Tree; a new region; additional weapons and more.
Palworld was a massive success pretty much from the get-go. Even so, update 1.0 will mark a major milestone for this viral hit. It will be interesting to learn what these 27 pages worth of patch notes wind up consisting of when Palworld officially leaves Early Access on the 10th of July.

While the Pokémon franchise is known best for its abundance of merchandise (making over $100 Billion off retailers alone), the company’s video game efforts have been just as successful financially, with each mainline entry easily selling in excess of 10 million copies almost immediately. It therefore comes at little surprise that over the past 30 years, more than half a Billion copies of “Pokémon-related software” have been sold.
Sharing updated sales data via their ‘Pokémon in Figures’ page, ThePokémonCompany revealed that “total shipments of all Pokémon-related software” has officially exceeded 500 million units – 515 million to be specific.
While impressive in its own right, this figure does not account for the many different free-to-play titles released over the years, with the likes of Pokémon GO alone amassing more than 1 billion downloads and TCG Pocket garnering over 200 million.
The Pokémon series has had its ups and downs over the past three decades. That said, there’s no denying that the franchise has a fervent fanbase who look forward to each new release – for better and for worse.

Wildlife that has populated No Man's Sky planets for a decade now has a direct gameplay purpose: you can catch creatures, raise them, and pit them against other players' creatures in competitive arena battles. Beyond the obvious Pokémon reference, Hello Games has also mentioned World of Warcraft's pet battling as an inspiration. US Patent Office Revokes Nintendo’s Controversial Patents for Summoning and Battling Characters
The legal battle between Nintendo and Palworld creator PocketPair just become even more interesting. Last year, Nintendo was able to get approval for patents around summoning and battling characters that were immediately controversial, so much so that some lawyers said the approvals "should not have happened, full stop." Two months later, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) moved to re-examine those patents, and now, those patents have officially been revoked. This comes from the latest report from Games Fray, which has consistently reported on the evolving case between Nintendo and PocketPair. If you need a recap on what's […]

US patent office revokes Nintendo patent central to Palworld lawsuit
Late last year, the US Patent Office opened up a ‘re-examination' of a patent that gave Nintendo ownership over a common videogame mechanic – summoning an NPC to fight for you. Now months later, this process has resulted in the patent being revoked.
Back in 2025, the Japanese patent office rejected Nintendo's application for a patent what would cover monster capturing and throwing mechanics. Initially, a similar patent was granted in the US, but it has now been revoked. As spotted by GamesFray and VGC, the US patent and Trademark Office has now rejected all 26 claims made in the patent plication.
The patent in question here involved summoning characters and making them fight for the player. Obviously, this is a concept central to the Pokémon games, but it is also widely used in other games across multiple genres. Everything from Persona to Dark Souls could theoretically be impacted by Nintendo owning such a patent.
Nintendo filed for these patents in 2025 to bolster its legal case against Palworld, a survival game from indie studio PocketPair, that features Pokémon-like creatures and battles, but with open world survival and building mechanics never before seen in a Pokémon title. The game has far more in common with a title like Ark: Survival Evolved than any mainline Pokémon game.
KitGuru Says: Nintendo is known to be litigious, and it is rare to see the company lose in a court setting. However, if things continue going this way, it may end up losing the Palworld case.

Pokémon Pokopia sold 2.2 million units in its first 4 days
One of Nintendo’s big exclusives for 2026 is Pokémon Pokopia – an Animal Crossing styled life-sim spin-off “devoted to crafting, creating, and building”. Representing one of the highest rated Pokémon games in years, Pokopia appears to be off to a strong start (for a Pokémon spin-off at least) having officially sold over 2.2 million copies in its first 4 days.
Making the announcement via a press release, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed that “global sales of Pokémon Pokopia for the Nintendo Switch 2 system have surpassed 2.2 million units (including 1 million units sold in Japan) in the first four days since its worldwide launch on March 5, 2026.”
While 2.2 million copies in 4 days is a major achievement for any title, its quality-to-sales ratio is rather poor for a Pokémon game. For context, Pokémon’s most recent release prior to Pokopia – Legends Z-A – managed to sell 5.8 million units in its first week, despite being a pretty polarising title.
To put things into further context, the previous mainline Pokémon game (Scarlet and Violet) managed to shift a whopping 10 million copies in its first 3 days on the market. Of course, even amongst Pokémon spin-offs, Pokoipia is an entirely different type of game (a $70 one at that) and so it likely won’t reach the upper echelons of the franchise best-sellers.
That said, considering its high praise and Animal Crossing-esque gameplay loop, Pokopia could very well wind up selling 10s of millions of copies. We will have to wait longer to find out.

“Bootleg of a Bootleg”: A New Pokémon Lookalike, Pickmon, Seems to be Ripping Off Both Palworld and Pokémon
When Palworld was first announced back in 2021, the internet immediately clocked it as 'Pokémon with guns,' and it was the least surprising thing for Nintendo to initiate a lawsuit against the game's developer, PocketPair, even if it meant trying some "Hail Mary" tactics by going after patents for game mechanics, rather than attempting to catch PocketPair on copyright infringement with the design of the Pals coming very close to the design of popular Pokémon. But even amidst the lawsuit, Palworld has been a smash success - it may never arrive on a Nintendo console, but it doesn't have to […]

Pokémon Champions’s release date confirmed
The competitive world of Pokémon is expanding with the launch of Pokémon Champions on the Nintendo Switch systems in April 2026. Players who download the game early will have the opportunity to claim a special Dragonite as a limited-time bonus from their in-game mailbox.
This new title places a heavy emphasis on the return of Mega Evolution, offering a direct connection to the upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A. By using Pokémon Home to bring over specific partners like Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, and the Eternal Flower Floette, trainers can unlock exclusive Mega Stones to gain an advantage.
This release features a visitor system that lets you import compatible Pokémon from Pokémon Go and past entries in the series. While some Pokémon may need to undergo move training to learn techniques compatible with the Champions' battle system, any training results will be saved and carried over if that Pokémon leaves and returns to the game later. However, players should be aware that Pokémon caught within Champions are restricted to the game and cannot be transferred back to their permanent Pokémon Home collection.
When you arrive in the new Battle Arena, you will be guided by a cast of helpful characters designed to streamline your competitive experience. Tatora will assist with tournament entries, while Kitt manages the Roster Ranch for team building. For those looking to master high-level play, Cordy provides strategic tips, and veterans Caraway and Kajima will greet you as you prepare for your first matches in the arena. This social hub and simplified transfer system aim to make top-tier battling more accessible to trainers of all skill levels as they aim for the title of Champion.
KitGuru says: It's interesting to see the Pokémon Company pivoting toward a dedicated battle platform that puts the traditional “catch 'em all” journey aside in favour of pure strategy. Are you interested in this battle-centric Pokémon title?
