Take-Two CEO comments on Grand Theft Auto VI launch price
Ever since Nintendo began to charge $80 for some of its Switch 2 games, there has been a growing discussion surrounding game prices and more specifically how much Rockstar Gamesβ highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI will cost at launch. While we have yet to get an official figure, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive has now commented on the matter.
Speaking during a recent appearance at the βiiconβ video game conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick officially commented on the potential price for Grand Theft Auto VI, stating (as transcribed by IGN):
βConsumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery. How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.β
Zelnick continued, βWe look atβ¦ how do we deliver something amazing, and how do we make sure that what people pay for it feels very reasonable.β
While pretty much no-one expected Zelnick to announce the official price for GTA VI during the conference, his comments do suggest that hopefully the popular memes claiming that Grand Theft Auto VI will cost $100+ remain just that: jokes and memes. With GTA VI scheduled to release this November however, we will have to find out sooner or later.
KitGuru says: What do you think of Zelnickβs comments? What price do you believe GTA VI will cost at launch? How much would you be willing to pay? Let us know down below.

Last week, a hacker group gained access to a limited number of Rockstar Games files and threatened to leak them unless Rockstar paid a ransom fee. Rockstar didn't pay, and as expected, the group did leak the files. The whole situation appears to have backfired, as the leak contained nothing but glowing financial results for the studio, causing Take Two's stock to go up.Β
The leaked files contained up-to-date financial information for the current iteration of GTA Online, revealing that the game continues to make over $500 million every year, more than a decade on from its launch.
The leak appears to have inadvertently helped Rockstar parent company, Take-Two Interactive, as the company's stock shot up when trading opened yesterday morning, adding around $1 billion to its market cap.
Take Two is expected to have a very high-performing financial year, as Rockstar Games is due to release Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, along with the next-generation version of GTA Online.

KitGuru Says: The Rockstar hack was indeed real, but the information gathered wasn't much of a shock to anyone who has paid attention to the success of GTA 5 over the years. Even now, the game still shoots into monthly top-ten sales lists around the world.Β

The industry and gaming fanbase are literally waiting with bated breath to see what developer Rockstar Games has created after such a long development time and such an incredible amount of resources invested in the project. Take-Two Boss Says GenAI/AI Tools βMay Help You Create Assets, But That Wonβt Help You Create Hitsβ Like GTA
Generative AI (GenAI) and the new wave of AI tools that have begun to filter through the video game industry continue to be a controversial topic of conversation in games. The most recent spike in controversy comes from the reveal of NVIDIA's DLSS 5, which was an incredibly impressive reveal for some, but the cause of major backlash that already has some developers part of that initial reveal doing damage control. While there are a lot of players concerned as to how much GenAI tools will continue to influence how video games look and are developed, Take-Two Interactive chief executive [β¦]
