Netflix moving ahead with Diablo series, Blizzard has plans for Overwatch too

Blizzard had more than game announcements at BlizzCon this weekend. The company also confirmed that it is partnering with Netflix to produce a Diablo series, with discussions underway for potential adaptations of other Blizzard franchises.

Fans have been asking for Blizzard to commit to a TV adaptation for years, largely due to the popularity of the studio’s animated cinematics, particularly those produced for Overwatch. While an Overwatch series is not happening yet, Blizzard is taking its first step into the space with Diablo.

Blizzard president Johanna Faries announced the Netflix partnership during the BlizzCon keynote, confirming that a Diablo series is officially in development. She added that “Diablo, I promise, is just the beginning”, suggesting that Overwatch and Warcraft may also receive adaptations once the Diablo project is underway.

Videogame adaptations have become a major focus for streaming platforms and studios in recent years. Netflix found success with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which re‑created CD Projekt Red’s vision of Night City. Amazon has had a major hit with its Fallout series, and HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us also performed well, although reception to its second season was more mixed.

Microsoft, Blizzard’s parent company, has also seen momentum in the film space. The Minecraft movie has performed well, and work has begun on a Call of Duty film. Netflix previously announced plans for a Gears of War live‑action project, although that appears to be on hold for now.

KitGuru Says: Blizzard’s cinematics have always been a standout part of its games, so a Diablo series feels like a natural fit. With that said, I am very surprised that Overwatch wasn't the first game to get an adaptation.

Borderlands 4 player count explodes thanks to Loveless

Borderlands 4 has been coasting along at a few thousand concurrent players for weeks. Then Gearbox dropped a new Vault Hunter, slapped a very revealing skin on her, and suddenly everyone’s rediscovered the game.

Loveless gives Borderlands 4 its best day in ages

On Steam, the free weekend is doing plenty of the work here, sure. But the real spike lines up with Loveless the Hacker, a cybernetically-enhanced fighter with a split psyche who’s already been branded gooner bait by the internet, and they might not be wrong. The Ornate Order Pack skin, which comes free if you own the Super Deluxe Edition or Vault Hunter Pack, is the kind of outfit that leaves nothing to the imagination and everything to the imagination at once.

DEAR. MOTHER. OF. GOD. pic.twitter.com/MwGH6Gxf4X

— Chadly (@Chadly_99) September 10, 2026

The numbers speak for themselves. Borderlands 4 launched last September to a peak of 304,000 players before settling into the low thousands within weeks. A few weeks back it was hovering around 2,400 concurrent players. Today it’s cleared 20,000, the single biggest one-day jump the game has seen since launch.

Say what you want about the marketing strategy, but it’s working. Nothing brings players back to a looter-shooter quite like a $9.99 skin doing all the heavy lifting a mixed reception couldn’t.

PlayStation Walked Away From Kojima’s Physint Over Budget Fears, but Timed Exclusivity Sealed the Deal

A shadowy figure in a coat is depicted against a dark city skyline with the text 'Here Comes the Feeling' displayed prominently.

Following its announcement in 2024, PlayStation and Kojima Productions didn't talk much about Physint, the game that would mark Hideo Kojima's return to the stealth-action genre that made him one of the most renowned game designers with the Metal Gear series. The long silence was broken this week in a rather surprising way, as it was announced that PlayStation backed away from the project, only for Kojima Productions to partner with Xbox. According to a new report from Jason Schreier, the game's budget was among the reasons for PlayStation's pivot, although timed exclusivity also played a part in the decision. […]

Pearl Abyss Refuses to Slow Down Crimson Desert Fixes Even as October 15 Expansion Looms

A character in Crimson Desert holding a cat in a rustic village setting.

Following the release of Crimson Desert Enhanced late last month, many expected Pearl Abyss to slow down its relentless patch schedule to focus its effort on the upcoming Charting the Unknown expansion launching on October 15 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, that doesn't seem to be the case, as the Korean developer has launched yet another patch today, which introduces a variety of fixes and improvements, including further improvements for the visual noise issue that has plagued the game since its March launch. As the developer is reserving new features and mechanics for the upcoming expansion, […]

PlayStation explains why it really dropped Kojima’s Physint

So here’s the bit everyone wanted after this week’s Kojima-Xbox bombshell: why did PlayStation actually walk away from Physint?

Bloomberg has the answer, and it’s less “creative differences” and more straightforward cold feet. According to sources close to the situation, the Death Stranding series simply hasn’t performed the way Sony wanted, and that history weighed heavily on the decision. Given Death Stranding 2 reportedly shifted over 2.5 million copies, that’s a fairly damning read on what PlayStation considers a “success” these days.

Budget blowouts and a ticking clock

The bigger issues, though, were practical. Physint had already missed deadlines and was on track to run well over budget, despite still being years from release. Add to that Sony’s reluctance to sink “hundreds of millions of dollars” into a game that would only stay exclusive for a limited window, and cancelling starts to look less like a snub and more like basic spreadsheet maths.

PHYSINT

Kojima isn’t left stranded. After three months hunting for a new home, Xbox has picked up PHYSINT, with Kojima himself calling it a “genre-defining action-espionage title.” Whether that framing survives contact with Microsoft’s own budget conversations is a different question entirely.

Sony’s split from Kojima explained in new report

We learned earlier this week that Sony had pulled out of PHYSINT, forcing Kojima Productions to find a new publisher and ultimately landing with Xbox. Now, a new report has shed some light on why the relationship between Sony and Kojima broke down.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, PHYSINT had already slipped past several milestones and was trending over budget. Sony was also concerned about long‑term profitability, as Death Stranding and its sequel did not meet the company’s revenue expectations.

Another factor appears to be the changing landscape inside PlayStation. Many of the executives who originally backed Kojima Productions after the Konami fallout have since left the company. Their replacements were reportedly less invested in continuing the partnership, leaving PHYSINT without the internal advocates it once would've had.

On the other side, Microsoft says it is “honored” to work with Kojima and plans to collaborate on his film / TV efforts alongside games. Microsoft is also excited about the prospect of benefitting from Kojima's releases on the PC platform, as titles like Death Stranding had big followings on platforms like Steam, and Microsoft has the infrastructure in house to publish on PC, something that Sony wasn't doing until recently, and has now stopped doing again.

PHYSINT remains in development and is described as a “genre-defining action-espionage” game. Unfortunately, there is no word on how long the game will take to finish, or when we'll get our first look at it in action.

KitGuru Says: Sony’s reasoning makes sense from a business perspective, but it is still surprising to see the company walk away from a prestige creator at a time when its single‑player output has slowed. PHYSINT landing at Xbox is a major shift and one that could pay off significantly for Microsoft.

CAPCOM’s Mega Man: Dual Override Nails The Blue Bomber Feel, But New Chip System Subtly Rewrites The Rules

Two characters from Mega Man Duel Override stand back-to-back, featuring a blue-armored character and a red-armored character with a yellow scarf.

Unlike series like Onimusha, which made its triumphant return with Way of the Sword, the Mega Man series hasn't been left dormant for decades, as the latest main entry in the series, Mega Man 11, launched in 2018. Still, the Blue Bomber had yet to make its debut on current-generation systems, and will do so in style, as Mega Man: Dual Override is set to continue the incredible stream CAPCOM has been on since the launch of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard in Spring 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch systems. Square Enix Dodges DLSS 5 confirmation for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but Targets ‘Much Smoother’ PC Version than Rebirth

A scene from 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' shows Cloud Strife kneeling among glowing flowers, with several characters standing in the background.

In our fresh, exclusive interview with Square Enix's Naoki Hamaguchi, Kai asked the Game Director whether the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Revelation would support the new NVIDIA DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology. Hamaguchi didn't commit either way, but he did commit to ensuring that the PC version of the game runs significantly better than Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Please look forward to our future announcements on that. In terms of the PC version, we're still working on the recommended specs. But we do have a goal to make the PC version run a lot more smoothly than […]

Square Enix Redefines JRPGs With Final Fantasy VII Revelation in 2027, As Sweeping Player Choice Takes Center Stage

Characters from the game 'Final Fantasy VII: Revelation' stand on rocky cliffs, facing a massive, fiery creature with colorful, armored appendages.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation was hands-down among the best reveals of the Summer gaming showcases, if not the very best. Although the game was a known quantity, given the amount of teasing director Naoki Hamaguchi had done in the previous months, seeing the Highwind soar over Gaia and Cloud and his companions parachute down toward the biggest open-world the series has delivered to date was one of those moments that sticks, much like the announcement of the entire Remake trilogy. While the reveal awed fans of the series, the question remained: how would the third and final entry handle its […]

Kojima’s spy game PHYSINT, just switched sides to Xbox

Sony just walked away from a Kojima game, and Xbox picked it up before the dust even settled.

In a short statement, Sony confirmed it made the “difficult decision to step away” from PHYSINT, the Metal Gear-style espionage project from Kojima Productions. No blog post, just a quick line on social media. Minutes later, Xbox confirmed it’s stepping in to publish the game instead.

An update from PlayStation Studios: After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima's vision for the game.

Our relationship…

— PlayStation (@PlayStation) September 10, 2026

What actually happened

Kojima cleared up the timeline himself. Sony apparently pulled the plug back in mid-June, catching his studio off guard. He spent the next three months shopping the project around before landing with Xbox, a partner he’s already worked with on OD, his upcoming horror game.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma welcomed the move, saying creators have choices about where they build their games and that Kojima chose Xbox this time.

PHYSINT

Don’t expect it soon

This is now the second Kojima Productions game tied to Xbox, alongside OD. PHYSINT itself was born because fans kept begging for something closer to old-school Metal Gear, and it’s still years out. Kojima estimated back in 2025 that it needed another five to six years of work, so we’re looking at 2030 or later before anyone touches it.

Sony and Kojima still have Death Stranding tying them together, but PHYSINT jumping ship is a real shift for a creator whose name has been glued to PlayStation for decades.

Guardians of the Galaxy is getting a second chance at life on Switch 2

Marvel’s renewed focus on the video games industry has led to a mixture of results. While the likes of Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man titles proved to be both critical and commercial hits, Marvel’s Avengers on the other hand was somewhat of an infamous failure. Sitting somewhere in the middle is Guardians of the Galaxy. Initially released in 2021, the game is set to get a second chance at life thanks to its upcoming Switch 2 ‘Encore Edition.’

Making the announcement during the most recent Nintendo Direct, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition was officially confirmed to be coming to the Switch 2 later this year on the 5th of November.

For the uninitiated, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player action-adventure title in which you play as Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians. Throughout the game, players will make plenty of choices both narratively and gameplay-wise, helping to make the group feel like a proper team.

While the game was praised upon its initial release back in 2021 (even winning a bunch of awards), sales for the title proved to be lower than publisher Square Enix was hoping.

Guardians of the Galaxy Switch 2

Thus, the Encore Edition presents a second chance for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Available exclusively for the Switch 2, this new edition appears to be pretty much the same experience, albeit with “an all-new set of glam rock outfits for the Guardians.”

While it remains a visually pleasing experience (for the most part), certain compromises have been made in order to get it running on Switch 2. According to the devs, the Encore Edition will come with two visual modes: Quality (1440p | 30fps) and Performance (1080p | 40FPS). When playing in handheld, only one option will be available (30FPS at an undisclosed resolution).

Regardless, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a great game which unfortunately underperformed thanks in part to the previous year’s live-service Avengers – putting a bit of a stink on IP at the time. Half a decade later however, it will be interesting to see how the game performs.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the game back in 2021? Was it unfairly lumped in with The Avengers at the time? Who’s your favourite member of the Guardians? Let us know down below.

Kojima moves to Xbox after PlayStation tried to cancel new stealth game

Roughly a decade ago, Konami had a very dramatic falling out with Hideo Kojima, the legendary game director behind the Metal Gear Solid series. As a result, Sony garnered some swift PR by helping Kojima start up his new studio and funding his latest IP, Death Stranding. Now, almost another ten years on, Sony has split up from Kojima.

In a statement today, Sony confirmed that it has decided to no longer partner with Kojima Productions on their game PhysInt, which was described as a new tactical espionage series, essentially a spiritual successor to Metal Gear. While Sony's statement downplayed the cancellation somewhat and made it sound like Kojima and Sony would work together again in the future, Kojima's own statement on the matter delivers a very different takeaway.

In his own statement on what happened, Kojima said: “As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner.”

And it turns out that partner is none other than … Xbox: “In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.”

Microsoft began forming a relationship with Kojima a few years ago by funding an experimental horror project titled OD: Knock. Now, Xbox will also be publishing Kojima's PHYSINT as well and it is unclear if either game will release on PlayStation consoles.

KitGuru Says: PHYSINT should have been a slam dunk with long-time fans, but now this will end up being an easy win for Xbox, who look primed to deliver on the single-player games front next generation, an area that has been sorely lacking for PlayStation Studios over the past few years.
