Today, Nvidia is launching DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, an update to the original Ray Reconstruction model that arrived nearly three years ago. We first got wind of this at Computex 2026 and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction is available now in certain games, though just like with DLSS Super Resolution, it does require use of the Override function within the Nvidia App. We went hands-on with early access to the technology, so join us as we take a first look at what it can do…

First things first, if you want to catch up on what exactly Ray Reconstruction is and how it works, do check out our original analysis from 2023 as it is still very relevant today. What we're focusing on here, however, is what difference the DLSS 4.5 update makes compared to the prior DLSS 4.0 Ray Reconstruction model. Nvidia claims that ‘DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction introduces a second-generation transformer model with 35% more compute capability and 20% more parameters while maintaining similar performance to the previous model', which certainly sounds good on paper – we're here to see exactly what that means for image quality in games.

Performance

As shown in the video, we observed only a negligible performance cost when using DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction with both an RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 at 4K resolution. However, what is odd is that, despite Nvidia suggesting we should see more of a performance hit on 20 and 30-series hardware, we actually saw a small performance improvement on both the RTX 3090 and RTX 2080 Ti in their respective tests. I'm not sure if this is a quirk of my testing or if others will find the same thing, but it was repeatable so I have included it here.

Closing Thoughts

After this admittedly relatively brief look at DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, I have to say I am pretty impressed by what I’ve seen. I wouldn't say that I've been blown away from the improvements made with the new model – certainly not in the same way as I was comparing RR off to RR on when the technology first launched, but I suppose that is to be expected.

Instead, what we’ve seen is more like going from DLSS 3 Super Resolution, to DLSS 4 – meaning the improvements may not be revolutionary, but they are still very welcome and do improve certain image quality characteristics that can be associated with DLSS technologies – including temporal instability, ghosting or shimmering, as well as general sharpness and detail.

With that in mind then, it’s really hard not to be impressed by the new DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction update. As shown in the video, there are still some issues present, but by and large we have seen a number of improvements across the board, all without any real performance cost, too. In my view, that is an absolute win for the end user, and shows us the best of Nvidia – supporting GPUs all the way back to the RTX 20-series with new updates, completely free, that have basically no downside. Let’s hope that doesn’t stop any time soon.

mVolt+ adds advanced voltage and power controls for RTX 50 GPUs

mVolt+ is a relatively new overclocking utility that has been receiving rapid updates since launch, with the latest version adding advanced power‑channel and voltage controls for Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs – options not currently available in tools like MSI Afterburner.

As spotted by Videocardz, mVolt+ Release v0.36 introduces separate power‑channel limits for the core and memory, alongside voltage controls across the Core, XBAR, SYS and Video domains. These additions allow certain GPUs to exceed total power limits defined in their VBIOS, enabling behaviour previously restricted to XOC BIOS or shunt‑mod configurations.

Over on Reddit, users have already begun sharing results. One RTX 5090 owner posted a 3DMark Steel Nomad run showing the card pulling close to 700W under load. Another reported core clocks between 3.15GHz and 3.20GHz, with an XBAR frequency around 2.8GHz.

Despite the expanded controls, mVolt+ cannot bypass physical hardware limits. The developer warns that extreme voltage tuning may cause instability and void warranties.

KitGuru says: While mVolt+ unlocks impressive benchmark scores, the massive increase in power draw makes it a bit too risky to run permanently.

Gears of War E-Day launches in October with DLSS 4.5

Seven years on from the release of Gears 5, The Coalition is back with a new game. Gears of War E-Day is now scheduled to release in early October, with a multiplayer beta test taking place in August for those who want to try it out early. On PC, the game will launch with Nvidia's latest DLSS features.

Gears of War E-Day will support DLSS 4.5 at launch, Nvidia confirmed today. The new game is a prequel to the original trilogy, rather than a sequel to Gears 5. As a result, fan favourite characters, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are back in the spotlight as the main protagonists, with both fighting back the Locust horde during their first invasion of earth.

Like all previous Gears of War titles, E-Day is built using Unreal Engine. This time around, The Coalition is implementing new tech like MegaLights for more realistic ray-traced shadows, and Lumen for RT global illumination and ambient occlusion. The game also promises more advanced real-time destruction for more explosive set pieces throughout the campaign.

Aside from the single-player campaign, Gears of War E-Day will also offer traditional PvP multiplayer modes, as well as the series' biggest co-op horde mode to date.

Computex 2026: Nvidia launches RTX Spark, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction and more

We are kicking off our Computex 2026 coverage with Leo's breakdown of Nvidia's keynote. As you may expect, AI was at the very top of Nvidia's presentation, but there were also some GeForce-related announcements for gamers too. Perhaps the most revealing moment of the entire presentation came when Jensen remarked that ‘a long time ago Nvidia used to be a GPU company’ – a statement that says a great deal about where the company sees its future.

The biggest announcement from Nvidia this week is the launch of RTX Spark. This is Nvidia's new ‘superchip' for Windows laptops and as you may expect, many OEMs are already on board with new designs. RTX Spark is intended to allow the masses to run personal AI agents at home. Nvidia claims a massive 1 Petaflop of AI performance from RTX Spark systems, as well as support for up to 128GB of unified memory, and LLMs running at 120B parameters, all running locally. The likes of Microsoft, Lenovo, HP, Dell and Asus will be shipping RTX Spark laptops later this year.

On the gaming front, Nvidia has DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction arriving in August. This update brings a new transformer model with improved compute capability and spatial awareness, allowing for better ray-tracing effects while using DLSS upscaling. Soon. DLSS 4.5 will be available as a UE5 plugin, while software like Nvidia ACE will get multi-lingual support.

Nvidia has also reached a new milestone with over 1000 games and apps now supporting RTX features in one form or another. In the near future, Nvidia hardware partners will begin shipping more RTX 5090-equipped gaming laptops, new G-Sync displays with support for up to 1000Hz refresh rates and more.

Nvidia rolls out new Game Ready driver for 007 First Light

007 First Light is launching into early access today for pre-order customers and Nvidia is preparing gamers with a new graphics driver. The latest GeForce driver is now available to download, bringing optimisations for IO Interactive's new James Bond title, alongside a few other games.

007 First Light is an original James Bond game from IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman franchise. The PC version includes a suite of GeForce-related features, including DLSS 4.5 and Nvidia Reflex. Also launching this week is World of Tanks: Heat, a new PvP spin-off, also launches with DLSS.

Starminer, a new interstellar mining game, launches into early access this week with support for DLSS 4.5, and the new driver also preps gamers for the new Helldivers 2 update, which brings DLSS to the game and Nvidia Reflex for the first time. The final game on the list this week is F1 25, which launches next week with DLSS and Reflex included.

The new Game Ready graphics driver is available to download through the Nvidia app.
