Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Brings a Bigger War and Exciting New Features This October

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has officially been announced by Activision and Infinity Ward. The next entry in the popular shooter series is set to launch on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The new game takes players into a large-scale global conflict that begins on the Korean Peninsula. According to the developers, North Korea launches a full invasion that quickly spreads into a much bigger war. Players will experience the story through different characters, including a young South Korean soldier fighting on the front lines and Captain Price, who is operating outside official military channels while chasing a personal mission.

The campaign will take players to several locations around the world. Missions will include trench warfare in Korea, battles in New York, high-speed chases in Paris, night raids in Mumbai, and large military operations to reclaim occupied cities. Infinity Ward says the story will be one of the darkest and most emotional in the Modern Warfare series.

Multiplayer is receiving major changes as well. A new combat system called Ballistic Authority aims to make gunfights feel more realistic and responsive. The developers have removed bloom from hip-fire shooting, making shots feel more accurate and predictable. Weapon handling, recoil, audio, and visibility have also been improved to create a more authentic combat experience.

Movement has been expanded with better climbing, mantling, hanging, and jumping mechanics. These additions are designed to give players more freedom when moving through maps while still keeping the grounded style that Modern Warfare is known for.

At launch, the game will include 12 core multiplayer maps set in locations around the world. One of the biggest additions is Kill Block, a new training facility map that changes its layout between rounds. The system can create hundreds of different map configurations, forcing players to adjust their tactics every match.

The popular Gunsmith system is returning with deeper customization options. Players will also gain access to Apex Attachments, special upgrades unlocked by fully leveling weapons. These attachments can significantly change how a weapon performs, giving players more ways to build their preferred loadouts.

Modern Warfare 4 will also feature two Prestige paths. Classic Prestige resets progression for extra rewards, while Regular Prestige allows players to continue leveling without losing their unlocked loadouts.

DMZ is making a return as the game’s extraction-based mode. Players can enter dangerous combat zones alone or with a squad, complete objectives, gather valuable loot, and attempt to extract safely. Dynamic weather, changing objectives, and roaming enemy forces are expected to make every deployment feel different.

On the technical side, Infinity Ward promises the most advanced visuals in Call of Duty history. The game is built specifically for current-generation hardware and high-end PCs. PC players will have access to advanced graphics settings, frame generation technologies, expanded ray tracing options, and support for DLSS 4.5.

Activision has also confirmed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will be the first Modern Warfare title to launch on Nintendo hardware in more than ten years. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is being developed alongside the other versions, with more details expected later this summer.

Pre-orders are available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who pre-order will receive early access to the open beta and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin. A Vault Edition is also available, offering additional operator skins, weapon packs, BlackCell content, and extra DMZ bonuses.
