Helldivers 2 update to add DLSS, DRS, latency improvements and more

Helldivers 2 has been on an interesting trajectory, with the PlayStation-published co-op shooter seeing equal amounts of success and strife from fans depending on the update. On the technological side of things however, Helldivers 2 has been on the upswing – with the title set to receive a suite of upscalers and other optimisations later this month.

Taking to their Steam page to detail the upcoming update, the team at Arrowhead Game Studios announced the ‘Optimizing Liberty’ update.

Going live on the 27th of May, this patch will introduce a number of welcome improvements both in terms of performance and visuals, including support for:

  • FSR 4.0.3 (PC)
  • DLSS 4.5 (PC)
  • XeSS 3.0 (PC)
  • PSSR (PS5 Pro)
  • FSR 3.1 (Base PS5 and Xbox)

Alongside these upscalers, the update will also add other smaller enhancements, including VRR support on PlayStation; as well as VRS (Variable Rate Shading) and Dynamic Resolution Scaling across all platforms.

Helldivers Update

Thanks to these optimisations, Helldivers 2’s performance mode on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will now run at higher max resolutions (said to be 1440p).

Last but certainly not least, the update will also incorporate Nvidia’s Reflex and AMD’s Anti-lag 2 technology for minimal input latency.

Ever since Nixxes partnered with Arrowhead to work on Helldivers 2, we’ve seen a ton of welcome improvements – and while this upcoming patch is exciting – the team have promised another “dedicated tech-focused update later this summer to push these improvements even further”. It will be interesting to see what else is planned in this regard.

Helldivers II to receive new Exo Experts Warbond next week

2026 has been a pretty big year for Helldivers II so far, with the live-service PlayStation Studios title receiving a number of substantial updates including but not limited to a massive game file size decrease for PC players, the announcement of a film adaptation and the unveiling of Helldivers II’s first proper roadmap. Alongside these larger sweeping changes, the team have kept the game fresh with a suite of new DLCs on a regular basis – the latest Warbond of which will add a bunch of mechs and exo-suits.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to make the announcement, Arrowhead Game Studios officially detailed the next Warbond coming to Helldivers II. Officially landing on the 28th of April, the Exo Experts Warbond is focusing on expanding the player’s arsenal of mechs while also including a suite of additional weapons:

  • EXO-51 Lumberer (Exosuit equipped with an anti-tank cannon and a flamethrower)
  • EXO-55 Breakthrough (Exosuit equipped with a flak cannon and a ballistics shield)
  • MGX-42 Bullet Storm (Disposable machine gun with 24 barrels)
  • SMG-203 Gallant (Submachine gun with a high fire rate)
  • P-33 Missile Pistol (Uses guided, heat-propelled rounds and a lock-on feature)

As always, the Exo Experts Warbond also features a ton of ancillary additions, including new armours; capes; camos; emotes and more – with the most gameplay-altering addition being the Oxygenator armour passive, allowing for faster walk, run and slide speeds.

The Exo Expert Warbond officially arrives on the 28th of April, and as always can be obtained using Super Credits (which can either be purchased or earned in-game).

Helldivers II gets first ever content roadmap, promising tons of additions “over the next several months”

While Arrowhead Game Studios have been pretty ‘on it’ when it comes to updating Helldivers II with new additions on a consistent basis, the team have never shared a proper roadmap, instead focusing on dropping surprise updates with relatively little heads-up. That said, in a first for Arrowhead, the team have released a comprehensive ‘content roadmap’ covering everything planned to be released “over the next several months.”

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the team at Arrowhead wrote: “Citizens of Super Earth,

For the first time since launch, we’re ready to share a clearer view of the battles ahead. Our fight for liberty continues to grow, and with each new front comes more opportunities to spread Managed Democracy across the galaxy.”

With that, the team have given players a look at the next 4 updates. Said to be arriving “over the next several months” the full list of announced additions is as follows:

  • Major Update 6.0
    • New Biome (Mega Factories)
    • New Vehicle (Bastion Tank)
    • New Limited-time event
    • New Enemies (Cyborgs and Vox Engine)
    • New Missions

Helldivers Arrowhead

  • Update 6.1
    • New Enemies
    • New Galactic War Campaigns
    • New Mission
  • Update 6.2
    • 2 New Biomes
    • New Galactic War Campaigns
    • New Enemy Variant
  • Update 6.3
    • New Biome
    • New Galactic War Campaigns

Of course, each of these updates will also introduce a new Warbond to acquire as well as general quality-of-life improvements / balance changes.

Helldivers II has received a ton of support ever since the game’s release. That said, some past updates have been met with backlash from fans and so hopefully having a longer-term roadmap will allow for greater levels of communication between Arrowhead and their community.

Helldivers II to get WWI themed ‘Entrenched Division’ Warbond next week

Arrowhead Game Studios have been keeping Helldivers II feeling fresh thanks to semi-regular in-game updates and events alongside a consistent cadence of Warbond releases. With regards to the latter, the team have now unveiled their WWI themed ‘Entrenched Division’ Premium Warbond – introducing new takes on classic weaponry, the ‘entrenchment tool’ shovel and more.

Available to purchase for the standard price of 1000 Super Credits (the resources for which can of course be obtained for free through gameplay), the Entrenched Division Warbond is officially arriving on the 17th of March.

As mentioned, this release is themed around WWI; with weapons, items and more inspired by the trench warfare of 100 years ago.

Like always, the Warbond features a mixture of weapons; strategems; cosmetics and more, including:

  • B/FLAM-80 Cremator Flamethrower (strategem)
  • A/GM-17 Gas Mortar Sentry (strategem)
  • SMG/FLAM-34 Stoker (submachine gun)
  • P-69 Veto (pistol)
  • CQC-73 Entrenchment Tool (shovel)
  • G-48 Giga Grenade (throwable)
  • CPG-48 Sapper (medium armour)
  • CPH-26 Commandant (light armour)

While Arrowhead need to make sure to maintain a balance between all of Helldivers’ continuously added content, it is exciting to see new weapons; armours; stratagems and other potentially game-changing features being added on a consistent basis.

Arrowhead replacing Helldivers 2 on PC with new slim build with 85% reduced file size

A few months ago, Arrowhead officially began rolling out a beta version of a new build of Helldivers 2 for PC, one that dramatically shrunk the storage space required to install the game. Now after monitoring user feedback, Arrowhead is officially retiring the original, bloated build of the game.

With the new slim build of the game, the install size of Helldivers 2 was reduced by a massive 85 percent, going from 85GB to just under 24GB. The original build of the game contained a ton of duplicated assets, implemented with the goal of improving the game's performance on holder mechanical hard drives. However, in practise, this wasn't providing any meaningful benefit for players. After figuring all of this out, Arrowhead worked with Sony's PC specialist studio, Nixxes, to remove the duplicated assets and create the new, slim build of the game.

Speaking on the decision to fully move over to the slim build, Arrowhead said: “After extensive testing of our ‘slim' build, weeks of your input and stress testing including a great influx of new and returning players in the ‘Machinery of Oppression’ major update, we are confident that players are having a great experience playing Helldivers 2 on the smaller build.”

As a result, the ‘large' build of Helldivers 2 will be going away as part of the game's next major content update, arriving on March 17th. Once the change has been implemented, you will automatically download the 23GB version of the game, without having to jump into your Steam settings to opt in to the beta.

KitGuru Says: Helldivers 2 went from being a game that I would have to uninstall from time to time, to now being small enough to sit on my system indefinitely. More developers should really put more thought into smaller install sizes, as storage requirements across the industry have gone out of control.
