Subnautica 2 Storms Toward Early Access Launch This Week With Over 5 Million Wishlists on Steam, Pre-Orders Now Live

Two divers explore an alien underwater environment with bioluminescent plants and a large creature, under the title 'Subnautica 2'.

Unknown Worlds has opened up pre-orders for Subnautica 2 as the game surpasses 5 million wishlists on Steam ahead of its early access launch later this week on May 14, 2026. Subnautica 2 has reportedly been the most wishlisted game on Steam, and it will almost definitely be one of the biggest launches of 2026 before the end of the year. Even though, technically, it probably should've been one of the biggest releases of 2025 before a legal battle between Unknown Worlds' parent company Krafton and the co-founders of Unknown Worlds overshadowed the game for the past year. After that […]

Subnautica 2’s System Requirements Could Have You Diving for a Little Extra RAM Just to Reach 30FPS at 1080p

Two characters in diving suits explore an underwater cave illuminated by their flashlights, with the game title 'SUBNAUTICA 2' displayed in the foreground.

After revealing its release date yesterday, Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds has revealed the PC system requirements for its upcoming underwater deep-sea exploration survival adventure. Overall, the requirements arrive at a sort of middle ground for today's games, but they are far above what you'd need to play the first game. So much so that depending on when you last upgraded your PC, you might have to go diving for some extra RAM just to meet its requirements for the recommended minimum settings. Subnautica 2's minimum requirements call for a base of 12GB of RAM, to play the game at […]

The image displays the title 'Subnautica 2' in bold lettering, with logos for the companies 'Krafton' and 'Unknown Worlds' below.

In an interview with Eurogamer, two members of the Unknown Worlds team were able to provide some clarity and insight on the situation, the long and short of which is that yes, KRAFTON is still co-publishing the game. Subnautica 2 is finally launching this month following conclusion of legal battles

What initially started as a relatively low-key sequel to an excellent indie game, the development of Subnautica 2 wound up being far more complicated, with issues between developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment and original publisher Krafton leading to a plethora of legal battles. With all of it seemingly finally resolved however, the team at Unknown Worlds have officially confirmed the release date for Subnautica 2.

Making the official announcement, the team at Unknown Worlds Entertainment confirmed that the long-awaited Subnautica 2 is finally set to launch in Early Access later this month – arriving on the 14th of May (at 4PM UK time to be specific).

Alongside its release date, the team also offered an official price for the product, revealing that it will cost $29.99 and will cover β€œall additions, updates, and hotfixes up to our 1.0 launch and beyond.”

Outside of its price and release date, the team also gave a rough estimate for how long the game will remain in Early Access, claiming that it could β€œtake about 2 to 3 years” – though of course such timelines are always subject to change.

Regardless, with all of the various legal issues now behind them, Unknown Worlds are finally gearing up to release their long-awaited and much-anticipated Subnautica 2.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for Subnautica 2? Will you pick it up during Early Access or wait until it reaches 1.0? Let us know down below.

Subnautica 2 will get Early Access launch in May

Subnautica 2 has been in headlines recently but not for the right reasons. A legal case between three fired Unknown Worlds Entertainment executives and publisher Krafton had resulted in a judge ruling that the former CEO of the studio must be reinstated. Now, Krafton is moving things along and getting on with the early access launch for Subnautica 2.Β

Subnautica 2 is releasing into Early Access on both Xbox and PC in May 2026. The game had initially been planned to launch into early access before the end of 2025 but it was delayed. The exact reasons for the delay remain unclear.

Three former executives from Unknown Worlds Entertainment allege that the delay came into place to avoid massive bonus payouts agreed upon as part of Krafton's acquisition of the studio and the Subnautica IP. However, Krafton has argued that the game did not yet have enough content to release it. Now, just a few months into 2026, that appears to have changed.

In a statement sent to IGN, Krafton confirmed that it has pencilled in the early access launch for Subnautica 2 following a milestone review that took place earlier in March. The game will release amid ongoing litigation between the former Unknown Worlds CEO and Krafton.

KitGuru Says: We don't have both sides of the story in this situation between Krafton and the former Subnautica creators. In the meantime though, at least fans of the first game have something to look forward to in the coming months.Β

Judge Orders KRAFTON to Reinstate Unknown Worlds CEO, Restore Steam Access, and Allow Subnautica 2 Launch

The left side of the image shows the logo 'Krafton' over an underwater scene, while the right side features the 'Subnautica 2' Unknown Worlds logo and 'Early Access' text with two divers in an oceanic setting.

[UPDATE] We have just received the following statement from KRAFTON: KRAFTON puts players at the heart of every decision, and that will never change. Over the past several months, KRAFTON and the Unknown Worlds team have worked tirelessly to strengthen the game and prepare it for an Early Access release, with a continued focus on delivering the best possible experience for the Subnautica community. We look forward to pushing out the newly updated version as soon as possible for players. While we respectfully disagree with today’s ruling, we are evaluating our options as we determine our path forward. Today’s ruling […]
