Forza Horizon 5 has officially sold over 5 million copies on PS5

Forza Horizon 5 marked one of the biggest first-party Xbox games to come to PS5, with the 2021 open-world racing title releasing back in April of last year to near-immediate success. Since then, sales have continued to truck along, with FH5 co-developer Virtuous Games confirming that over 5 million copies have been sold on PS5 alone.

As part of the ‘Success Stories’ section of their website, Virtuous Games (known for co-developing a ton of titles ranging from Astral Chain to Mortal Kombat and even Call of Duty) revealed that Forza Horizon 5 has officially sold over 5 million copies on PS5, writing:

“Our multidisciplinary teams contributed extensively across art production, engine enhancement, performance optimization, and tooling development to help deliver a visually breathtaking and technically robust racing experience. Forza Horizon 5 was one of the best-selling titles on PlayStation 5 in 2025, surpassing 5 million copies sold on the platform and earning widespread acclaim.”

Forza PS5

This isn’t the first time that this 5 million figure has been floated, with analyst firm Alinea claiming back in January that they believed the title had surpassed this milestone. That said, this latest report marks the first official confirmation of its PS5 sales success.

Considering the fact that Forza Horizon 5 arrived on PS5 years after its initial release, it will be interesting to see how Forza Horizon 6 performs when it lands on PlayStation mere months following its Xbox/PC launch.

KitGuru says: Are you one of the 5 million players? Will you be picking up FH6 day-one? Let us know down below.

Peter Molyneux’s Masters of Albion launches to ‘Mixed’ reviews on Steam

Peter Molyneux is a rather controversial figure in the video games industry. While the creator is known best for having developed the classic RPG series Fable, many of Molyneux’s more recent efforts have fallen short of their lofty claims. Representing the most promising project in quite some time, the self-funded Masters of Albion is officially out now in Early Access on Steam – launching to ‘mixed’ reviews.

Masters of Albion is said to be “a bold reimagining of the God Game genre, from the creator who defined it…Mixing strategy with simulation, town management and tower defence”. For the uninitiated, a god game is one in which the player has near-complete control of the world and its people, allowing you to shape it to your liking.

In Masters of Albion, players are able to observe and affect the world through a bird’s eye view while also being able to directly possess NPCs in order to control them in a 3rd-person format. With a day and night mechanic necessitating different strategies, Masters of Albion does look to be a fun time. Unfortunately, it appears as though the game’s ambitions have not quite been met.

Masters of Albion Steam

Currently sitting at a mixed reception on Steam, some users have expressed their satisfaction with the product, claiming it to be a solid mix of Molyneux’s previous works. On the other hand, the game has also been criticised for its relative lack of control during the game’s early hours alongside a monotonous focus on cooking mechanics.

Of course, Masters of Albion only just launched into Early Access, and so some leniency must be given with regards to its imperfections. With promised improvements said to be planned across combat; quest design; progression; UI and more over the next 12 months, here’s to hoping that Masters of Albion winds up being exactly as Molyneux envisioned.

KitGuru says: Are you planning to give Masters of Albion a chance? Could it be a solid God game by the time it leaves Early Access? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Conan Exiles to get surprise free ‘Enhanced’ update on Steam next month

Before they were known for developing Dune Awakening, Funcom were perhaps most familiar for their work on Conan Exiles – an open-world multiplayer survival crafter set in the Conan the Barbarian universe. With the title soon set to hit its 8th anniversary on the market, the team at Funcom have announced a surprise free update coming to the game next month, upgrading the title to Unreal Engine 5.

Making the surprise announcement, the team at Funcom officially unveiled Conan Exiles Enhanced, writing: “We’re excited to announce Conan Exiles Enhanced — a free, massive visual overhaul of Conan Exiles launching on the game’s 8th anniversary, May 5th.”

While sentiment surrounding UE5 is far from stellar, Funcom claims that this upgrade will not only boost the game’s visuals, but should allow for smooth performance, adding: “With the advanced capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, Conan Exiles Enhanced targets smooth 60+ FPS gameplay across Low, Medium, High, and Ultra settings on most PCs, while also delivering strong performance on Steam Deck.”

Of course, Funcom at this point do have experience working with Unreal Engine 5 and so hopefully this upgrade does prove to be well optimised.

Beyond visuals, the free update will also introduce a number of welcome additions, including the unification of the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah; the ability to have multiple characters per-account and a “revamped” UI.

Unfortunately, as of right now this Enhanced Edition is only coming to the Steam version of the game, meaning console users and even those who own the title via the likes of the Epic Games Store are being left out.

That said, the team did claim that they “are not ruling out a future release on those platforms” so we will have to wait and see. Full details on the upgrade, including a comprehensive FAQ, can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this upgrade? Why do you think only Steam users are getting the update? Let us know down below.

Cancelled Halo Battle Royale has reportedly evolved into an Extraction Shooter

While Halo Infinite may not have been the grand revival that Microsoft were hoping for the franchise, series co-developer Certain Affinity looked to be prepping to offer their own take on the franchise with a battle royale game. Ultimately this project never came to be, with reports claiming back in 2024 that the BR title had been cancelled. It appears rumours of the game’s death were somewhat exaggerated however, with insiders now claiming that the team pivoted and reworked the Battle Royale title into an extraction shooter.

As reported by known Halo insider Rebs Gaming, new details surrounding the previously in-development Battle Royale (known as project Tatanka) have been shared, with the insider claiming that:

“Tatanka was not a game mode for Infinite that would have been added to the multiplayer playlist menu, but rather a new separate PVP game co-developed by 343 Industries and Certain Affinity in the SlipSpace Engine.”

According to Rebs, “battle royale games were falling out of favor” and so 343i/Certain Affinity “wanted to avoid chasing an oversaturated genre”. As a result, Project Tatanka was ultimately cancelled, being spun off into a new project: Ekur.

Battle Royale Extraction Shooter

Though the current status of Ekur is unknown, the project is (or was) “a PVE extraction shooter” which was in development at least up until “the end of Summer 2023”.

Some sources claim that Ekur is slated to be the next multiplayer Halo entry, while others heard that it will instead be included as a new mode in the next Halo game.

Either way, according to Rebs, project Tatanka (now project Ekur) is still happening in one form or another.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this shift to an extraction shooter? Does Halo need to chase trends? Would you prefer a Halo Battle Royale or Extraction Shooter? Let us know down below.

Ecco The Dolphin: Complete officially announced; includes past titles and a new original entry

Back at the start of 2025 SEGA began to tease the revival of their long-dormant Ecco the Dolphin franchise, with the Mega Drive classic set to return with remasters alongside a brand new project. Finally, we have gotten our first proper details, with Ecco The Dolphin: Complete officially being announced – offering pretty much everything one could want from such a package.

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at A&R Atelier (founded by the series’ original creator) officially unveiled Ecco’s grand return, with Ecco the Dolphin: Complete set to take “players on a journey through time and through the history of one of gaming's most iconic franchises.”

While the package includes many of Ecco’s previous releases across the SEGA Master System and Mega Drive, the title also comes packed with “a brand-new contemporary game built for the modern era.”

Developed by many of the original devs behind the early Ecco games (including series creator Ed Annunziata alongside members of the original composition, art, and programming teams), Ecco The Dolphin: Complete feels like a total love-letter to this underappreciated series. “This is Ecco as it was always meant to be—realized by the minds that dreamed it into existence.”

Ecco the Dolphin SEGA

As with most game collections, this package will include a ton of extra features, including but not limited to:

  • Built-in speedrunning support
  • Achievements
  • Leaderboards
  • Quests spanning multiple games
  • Custom courses

Though far from SEGA’s biggest or best franchise, Ecco The Dolphin remains an intriguing, unique and memorable experience, and so it is exciting to see the series return not only with a comprehensive re-release of past titles, but also a brand new adventure to enjoy. Those interested in the title can sign up for early preview access HERE.

Control Ultimate Edition officially available now for iPhone and iPad

Following in the footsteps of other console game developers, Remedy Entertainment announced late last year that they would be porting the excellent Control over to mobile platforms – specifically iOS devices. While no exact release date was offered at the time, Remedy have now surprise-dropped Control Ultimate Edition onto the iOS App Store; officially available to purchase now for just $4.99.

Available now as a premium product commanding an upfront price of $4.99, Control Ultimate Edition brings the full console experience over to mobile, including support for ray-tracing on compatible hardware.

Additionally, Control’s…controls have been adjusted to suit mobile and touch-screen devices, with Remedy noting that “we have implemented touch controls and made changes to the in-game UI and game mechanics, like aiming and puzzles to provide a great experience for supported touch devices.”

Control Ultimate Remedy

Of course, the game also supports Bluetooth controllers for those who want a more console-like experience.

Regardless, it is interesting and encouraging to see an increasing number of major AAA titles being ported over to mobile platforms. Whether Control’s upfront cost will wind up helping or hurting the title, we will have to wait and see, but early reviews for the title appear to be positive.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the recent trend of bringing console games to mobile? Would you be willing to play Control on a relatively small screen? Should they have gone with a free-to-start model instead? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Control, Soul Hackers 2 and more set to leave PlayStation Plus next month

With the latest additions to Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium game subscription service now available, the console maker has also informed fans on what titles are set to be removed soon – with a total of 7 games getting ready to depart including Control and The Dark Pictures Anthology.

In going to the Last Chance to Play section on the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus page, users will find a total of 7 titles set to leave PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium’s service. Though no exact date was given, expect the following to be removed come sometime mid-May:

  • MotoGP 25
  • Sand Land
  • Soul Hackers 2
  • Mortal Shell
  • Control Ultimate Edition
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

PlayStation Plus Control

Compared to most months, May’s departees are rather notable across the board, with Mortal Shell being a competent souls-like; Soul Hackers 2 coming from the much-loved ATLUS; The Dark Pictures Anthology serving your B-Movie needs and last but not least Control – offering a highly fun, unique and intriguing 3rd-person shooter experience from Remedy Entertainment.

While there is unlikely to be enough time for you to complete all of these titles before they’re gone, subscribers might want to make sure to check out Control before its removal, especially with its sequel set to launch some time this year.

Microsoft teases upcoming Game Pass x Discord improvements

Xbox’s new CEO Asha Sharma has been quick to take action following the executive’s recent appointment, announcing that Game Pass prices would be coming down, while Call of Duty will no longer be a day-one addition to the service. Teasing even more changes, Sharma has revealed that Xbox’s partnership with the social platform Discord is set to grow further.

Taking to Twitter to tease the announcement, Sharma wrote: “For years, Xbox and Discord have worked together to make it easier for players to connect, chat, and play across devices. We're teaming up again as we continue to make Game Pass more flexible for our players. Some of you might start to see some code in the wild, and we will share more details with you all soon!”

Game Pass Discord

Though details on what this means exactly remain unknown, based on the wording there could be a couple different avenues which Microsoft is heading in. While Discord is already available on Xbox, this expanded partnership could further integrate the two platforms for increased seamlessness.

Alternatively, the use of the phrase “make Game Pass more flexible” could be alluding to the option to include Discord Nitro as a benefit for Game Pass subscribers. Last but certainly not least, Microsoft could be gearing up to acquire Discord (though hopefully this isn’t the case).

Regardless, it is interesting to see so many major and sweeping decisions coming so soon after Phil Spencer’s retirement and Asha’s appointment.

KitGuru says: What do you think this teaser could be referring to? Would the inclusion of Discord Nitro be of use to you? Let us know down below.

You’ll soon need to verify your age to access PlayStation “communication features”

In recent months we’ve seen many different platforms introduce new age verification systems as part of a renewed ‘online safety’ push, with the UK being one of the primary regions targeted. It appears as though PlayStation has decided to join in on such measures, announcing a new age checker in order to allow players to use the console’s various “communication features.”

PlayStation owners across the UK recently received either an email or a message via the official PlayStation app notifying users that new age verification checks will begin to be enrolled some time later this year, writing:

“Verify your age to keep using communication features. At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are committed to creating safe, age-appropriate experiences for players and families while respecting privacy and giving players and parents meaningful control over their gaming experience. As part of our compliance with global regulations, you'll need to verify your age later this year to continue using PlayStation communication features, such as messages and voice chat.”

PlayStation communication

It continues, “You will still be able to access other PlayStation services, like games, trophies, and the Store, if you do not verify your age. This is a one-time check and usually takes just a few minutes. Completing it ahead of time will help you continue accessing communication features when you want to use them.”

While such age checkers have been met with resistance from users, it is encouraging at the very least to see that purchasing and playing mature titles will not require any verification. Still, this could be the first step in a potentially slippery slope.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the recent rise in age verification requirements online? Will you bother verifying with PlayStation? Let us know down below.

Anime giant ‘Toei’ announces new subsidiary: Toei Games

Toei is a Japanese animation studio known best for their work on countless iconic franchises, including but not limited to One Piece; Dragon Ball; Digimon and many more. While the company has partnered with various video game developers and publishers over the years, Toei now appears to be taking things into their own hands, announcing that they have established ‘Toei Games’ with the goal to “create a new intellectual property that will captivate the world, starting with games.”

Making the announcement via a press release (translated by the publication Gematsu), Toei Corporation officially unveiled their brand new video games-focused subsidiary Toei Games.

Created in alignment with the company’s 75th anniversary, Toei Games is described as being a “new pillar” for the business alongside its other endeavours.

Speaking on this announcement, Toei CEO Fumio Yoshimura stated: “Games are an extremely global form of entertainment that continues to spread beyond language and national borders. Our group’s medium- to long-term vision, ‘Toei New Wave 2033,’ aims to deliver the ‘stories’ created by Toei to the entire world. We believe that our challenge in the game business, with the global market as our main battleground, is the embodiment of that vision.”

Toei Games Studio

As mentioned, Toei is home to many iconic anime franchises, including Dragon Ball, One Piece; Sailor Moon; Digimon and countless others. That said, the newly-established Toei Games will not make use of any pre-existing IPs, instead wanting to:

“create entirely new IPs from scratch, rather than simply utilizing existing IPs. We will leverage the technology and expertise we have cultivated through video production into our new game business, delivering Toei’s unique entertainment experience to players around the world.”

Given the cache of many of its franchises, it is perhaps for the best that Toei’s internal efforts are limited to new intellectual properties for now – at least until they are more familiar with making games specifically.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see what comes from Toei Games, and whether it will grow into something greater given enough time. The first game under this new studio will be officially announced on the 24th of April as a PC-first title.

Ubisoft is reportedly working on more Assassin’s Creed remakes

After years of leaks, rumours and a great deal of anticipation, Ubisoft is set to finally properly show off their Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake tomorrow. It appears however that Black Flag is not the only title set to receive the remake treatment, with insiders claiming that at least one other AC title is currently being remade – with more potentially coming down the line.

Ahead of the official public-facing reveal for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, known industry leaker Tom Henderson took to Insider-Gaming to offer some new details regarding the upcoming remake, while also teasing future plans.

Alongside the claims that Resynced will not feature any of Black Flag’s original DLC or multiplayer elements, Henderson revealed that Ubisoft is also working on other similar remake projects, stating:

“Insider Gaming understands that at least one more Assassin’s Creed game is in development as a remake, and that future remakes will enter development depending on how well Black Flag Resynced performs.”

Creed Ubisoft

Unfortunately, we did not get any further details on which AC title is being referred to here. Based on the franchise’s history of releases however, it will most likely be one of the earlier entries (meaning Assassin’s Creed 1; the Ezio trilogy or AC III).

Either way, we will have to wait and see how Black Flag Resynced is received and whether fans express their desires to see more remakes in a similar manner.

Elden Ring is A24’s most expensive film to date

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is easily one of the biggest new IPs to have risen this decade, with the 2022 open-world action-RPG selling in excess of 30 million copies – jumping all the way up to 45 million when accounting for its Erd Tree DLC and Nightreign spin-off. As such, it came as a relatively small surprise when it was announced that a film adaptation was in the works at A24. Following recent reports regarding the film’s status, we’ve now gotten a ton of official details, including its expected release date.

As reported by the publication Deadline, A24’s Elden Ring film (directed by Alex Garland) is set to premiere just under two years from now – arriving on the 3rd of March 2028. Said to be shot in IMAX, the project represents the most expensive film from A24, with TheHollywoodReporter claiming a budget of over $100 million.

Additionally, we also got our first full details regarding Elden Ring’s cast, with over a dozen actors having been selected, namely: Tom Burke; Havana Rose Liu; Sonoya Mizuno; Jonathan Pryce; Ruby Cruz; John Hodgkinson; Jefferson Hall; Emma Laird; Peter Serafinowicz; Kit Connor; Ben Whishaw; Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman. Unfortunately, we do not know who each of these will be portraying.

Elden Ring Film

Alex Garland, for context, has directed a number of well-known projects including 2014’s Ex Machina; 2018’s Annihilation and most recently 2025’s Warfare. As a writer, Garland is known for the 28 Days Later franchise, while also having worked in the video games space; contributing to 2013’s DMC: Devil May Cry.

The narrative of Elden Ring (as with all FromSoftware games) is secondary to its lore, world and overall vibes. As such, it will be interesting to see how Garland and co. choose to adapt this game into a live-action medium. Hopefully we will start to see some set photos being released sooner rather than later.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero to get massive DLC with over 30 new characters

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the spiritual successor to the beloved Budokai series of fighting games, with the dormant franchise returning after well over a decade under a new name. Released back in 2024, the game was a near-immediate success, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the franchise while pushing over 5 million copies. Despite featuring well over 100 characters, Bandai Namco have announced a massive DLC coming to Sparking! Zero this Summer; featuring over 30 new characters, a whole new game mode and much more.

Making the official announcement, studio Bandai Namco unveiled Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s ‘Super Limit Breaking NEO’ DLC. Set to arrive sometime this Summer, this expansion of sorts will include a ton of new content from across the board, including:

  • 30+ new characters from across the Dragon Ball universe (GT and Dragon Ball Super included)
  • 20+ customisation Items (costumes and super attacks)
  • 4 additional stages
    • Kami's Palace
    • Kame House
    • Bitter Tundra
    • Stratosphere
  • New game mode (described as a lite-RPG with battles/events and character levelling)

Alongside this DLC, Bandai have also promised that Sparking! Zero will receive a free update to coincide, said to be introducing “a new battle system” for fiercer and more intense fights. This new system will allow for Chain Blasts and Sparking Boosts for even flashier clashes.

While far from the most competitive of fighting games, Bandai’s Dragon Ball titles are in many ways the ultimate form of fan-service, and so it is exciting to see dozens of more characters being included alongside new ways to play.

While April’s additions include a number of welcome titles (with the day-one additions of Kiln and Vampire Crawlers being of particular note), the list of games departing is unfortunate to see, with the likes of Citizen Sleeper; Xenoverse 2; Hunt Showdown and Revenge of the Savage Planet all being titles worth trying out before they are removed.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will finally be unveiled this week

Over the past few weeks we’ve gotten a ton of new details pertaining to Ubisoft’s long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, with the publisher themselves choosing to unveil the project perhaps earlier than initially planned. That said, the game’s big blowout reveal event has now been officially announced, with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced set to be finally shown off in just two days’ time.

Following tons of leaks and rumours (and even insights from publications who got to see the game early), Ubisoft is finally set to properly show off the highly-anticipated Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Scheduling their Worldwide Reveal Showcase for the 23rd of April at 5PM UK time, Ubisoft officially confirmed that “The iconic solo pirate adventure returns. Tune in April 23rd, 4PM UTC – 6PM CEST – 9AM PDT for the worldwide reveal showcase of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.”

As mentioned, while we have gotten relatively little in the way of official details, insiders and leakers have given us something to work with, claiming that this remake will feature:

  • Much-improved underwater exploration
  • New story/gameplay content including
    • Additional officers
    • New crewmates
    • Bonus quests
    • Extra backstory chapters
  • Utilisation of the latest version of the AC (Anvil) engine

Of course, how all of this will be implemented and integrated into the rest of the game, we will have to wait and see. Luckily, it won’t be long till we find out, with the reveal showcase being a little over 48 hours away from going live.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 reaches new player milestone

Released over a decade following its first entry, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched in September of 2024 to a wave of success; both critically and commercially. Thanks to multiple years of post-launch support (and its inclusion on game subscription services), the 3rd person co-op horde shooter has reached a new major milestone – officially surpassing 12 million total players.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, publisher Focus Entertainment officially confirmed that “#SpaceMarine2 has now welcomed 12 million players. A couple years ago, we had great hopes for this project. Today, it has surpassed even our wildest dreams. Thank you twelve million times over.”

While a massive achievement certainly worth celebrating, it should be noted that 12 million players does not equate to 12 million copies sold, especially as the title was added to Sony’s PlayStation Plus game catalogue last month.

Regardless, Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 is an undeniable success, and so it will be interesting to see what’s in store for this sub-series moving forward.
