Street Fighter 6 hits new all-time concurrent player count on Steam following latest update

Prior to the launch of Street Fighter 6, Capcom claimed that they hoped the game would wind up pushing 10 million copies. Upon its release, SF6 proved to be a big hit, selling 1 million copies in its first 3 days while going on to break the concurrent player record for any fighting game on Steam. Despite closing in on 3 years since launch, Street Fighter 6 has found a second life, with its latest update helping the title to achieve a new record player count.

Upon its initial release, Street Fighter 6 came out the gate swinging, with Capcom’s latest fighting game launching to a peak concurrent player count of 70,573. At the time, this put SF6 as the most-played fighting game in Steam history, with the previous record going to Mortal Kombat 11 (with a peak CCU of 35K).

Since then Street Fighter 6’s player counts have ebbed and flowed with each update – though none have been able to surpass its launch highs. That said, in the wake of SF6’s latest update (which introduces fan-favourite character Alex alongside a bunch of balance tweaks) the game has managed to outdo itself with a peak CCU of 72,067 players.

Compared to its contemporaries, Street Fighter 6 seems to be having quite long legs, with the likes of Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 seeing pretty low CCU numbers (their 24hr peaks are currently resting at 9,563 and 1,386 respectively.)

With Street Fighter 6 sitting at 6 million copies sold, and now seeing a new surge in players, it’s safe to assume that Capcom will manage to hit their 10 million target sooner or later.

Capcom Spotlight stream goes live this week, featuring Mega Man, Pragmata and more

In recent years, Capcom has been hosting semi-regular showcases, informing its fans on what the publisher is currently working on. With Resident Evil Requiem now out and available for the world to enjoy, Capcom have announced that their next Spotlight showcase will go live later this week, featuring titles including Street Fighter 6; Pragmata and Mega Man.

Releasing a brief teaser trailer, publisher Capcom officially announced their next livestream, writing: β€œThe Capcom Spotlight is a digital event that brings you the latest news from Capcom! We will be presenting the latest news on highly anticipated upcoming Capcom titles.”

Set to go live on the 5th of March at 10 PM UK time, the broadcast is confirmed to last roughly 35 minutes long, and will include new details on a number of upcoming titles, namely:

  • Street Fighter 6
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
  • Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection
  • Pragmata
  • Mega Man Dual Override

By far the most interesting of these titles is Mega Man Dual Override, with the 2027 game being the first brand new entry in the franchise since 2018’s Mega Man 11. Based on the previous teaser shared, the game looks to follow in the footsteps of the classic Mega Man entries. That said, we will likely learn much more regarding the minutiae of the game during this upcoming showcase.

Aside from a few stumbles (Monster Hunter Wilds), Capcom has been on a generational run, and so it will be interesting to see what they have planned for Mega Man.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the showcase? What are your expectations for the new Mega Man? Do you want them to keep it simple? Let us know down below.
