Eleven years. That’s how long we’ve waited since Blood and Wine, and CD Projekt just ended the wait in the best way possible.

At Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, CD Projekt dropped the full reveal of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion built to bridge the gap between Wild Hunt and The Witcher 4. The CG trailer alone was enough to steal the show, and honestly, it deserved to.

Geralt is back, with Doug Cockle returning to voice him, in an all-original story that CD Projekt is treating as a proper event. There’s even a playable demo on the Gamescom show floor, one of the biggest exhibits at the whole show, so attendees don’t just get to watch this one, they get to play it.

Songs of the Past had been rumoured for months, with whispers of development going back to mid-2025. Piecing it together while juggling other projects clearly took time, but from what CD Projekt showed, it looks like the wait paid off.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Is Coming Too

CD Projekt didn’t stop at one Witcher reveal. The Witcher 3 Remastered is landing September 29th, and it’s free for anyone who already owns the game. A full overhaul of one of the best RPGs ever made, at no extra cost, is about as good a deal as gaming gets.

Two Witcher 3 announcements in one showcase. Not bad for a game that was supposedly done and dusted years ago.
