RAM Crunch Claims Another Victim: Price Hike Coming to Meta Quest VR Headsets Kenneth Kwok

From PC Mag: The AI-driven memory shortage has come for Meta's VR headsets, forcing the company to raise prices globally.

"We're making this change because the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly," Meta said in a blog post on Thursday. "The global surge in the price of critical components—specifically memory chips—is impacting almost every category of consumer electronics, including VR."

Here’s the pricing change in the US, which adds an extra $50 to $100. The Canadian market is receiving a similar price hike.

Meta Quest 3S (128GB): $349.99, up from $299
Meta Quest 3S (256GB): $449.99, up from $399
Meta Quest 3 (512GB): $599.99, up from $499

The good news is that consumers can still buy the headsets at the current pricing, but only for a few more days. Meta plans to increase prices starting Sunday, April 19.

Google will soon penalize sites that hijack your browser’s back button Kenneth Kwok

From PC World: Have you ever tried to click “back” on a website, but instead of returning to the previous page you ended up on a wall of ads? This can happen when websites or advertising networks use JavaScript to alter your browser’s history. It’s especially common in mobile browsers.

In a recent Google Search Central blog post, the company says that this type of “back button hijacking” is growing increasingly prevalent and wants to do something about it. Back button hijacking is now a codified violation in its spam policy, which comes into effect on June 15th.

Websites now have two months to remove all scripts that manipulate users’ browser histories and must also ensure that any libraries or ad platforms they use don’t hijack the back button. Sites that violate this new policy may, among other things, be penalized with a lower ranking in Google’s search results.

Google Will Pay $135M to Android Phone Owners. Learn Who's Eligible and How to Get Paid Kenneth Kwok

From CNET: For years, Google has been accused of harvesting data from Android phones without users' consent. A California lawsuit was settled for $314 million last year, and another class action lawsuit recently reached a resolution that could mean payouts for another 100 million people.

While not admitting fault, Google reached a preliminary settlement in the class action lawsuit Taylor v. Google LLC in January, agreeing to pay $135 million, and the official settlement website for the lawsuit is now live.

The final approval hearing won't occur until June 23, when the court will hear objections and consider whether Google's settlement is fair. After that, the court will decide whether to approve the $135 million settlement.

In the meantime, if you qualify and want to be paid as part of the settlement, you can select your preferred payment method on the official website. There, you can find information on speaking at the June 23 court hearing and on how to exclude yourself or write to the court to object by May 29.

Google's New Desktop Search App Is Like Spotlight for Windows Kenneth Kwok

From PC Mag: Six months after its reveal, Google’s desktop app for Windows is now available to help you search your computer's files, other apps, Google Drive, and the web with various AI-powered Gemini features.

The Google desktop app for Windows is available worldwide in English and works similarly to Spotlight on macOS, offering a system-wide search that pulls in results from other services alongside Google's own tools.

The tool is accessible anywhere on your computer through a keyboard shortcut. To launch the app, download it from Google's website. Once installed, press Alt and the space bar together. A search box will appear, allowing you to add a prompt that Gemini will understand in context.

Results for internet searches will appear in AI Mode at first, but you can also head to the All tab to see the full results, or search for images, videos, and other multimedia via the tabs at the top.

Netgear, Adtran earn exceptions from FCC’s router ban

Netgear, Adtran earn exceptions from FCC’s router ban Kenneth Kwok

From PC World: The first cracks in the government’s router ban have appeared: many of Netgear’s routers are now exempted from the FCC’s rule banning the sale of foreign-made routers, and Adtran can ship its service routers, too.

Netgear announced that it had earned a conditional approval from the FCC on Tuesday, and the FCC noted it in an update (PDF) to its Covered List as well.

The Federal Communications Commission said in March that it would effectively ban new consumer routers from being imported into the U.S. based on concerns that they pose “unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States and to the safety and security of U.S. persons.” The decision essentially capped off development of new consumer routers: Without approval by the FCC, no new routers could be licensed and sold. The FCC also put restrictions on updated firmware, too.

At the time, the blanket ban didn’t allow for any exceptions, though the experts pointed to Starlink’s domestically made satellite routers as potentially the only routers that would escape the ban.

Adobe Is Working With Anthropic to Bring a Creative AI Agent to Claude Kenneth Kwok

From CNET: Adobe is diving deeper into agentic AI and expanding its partnership roster in a new deal with the AI developer Anthropic. Adobe on Wednesday introduced its latest conversational, agentic creative assistant, which is the technological foundation for its work with Anthropic.

Firefly is the hub for all things Adobe AI, with integrations across other popular Creative Cloud apps such as Photoshop, Acrobat and Premiere Pro. The new Firefly AI assistant is agentic, which means that it can perform tasks with minimal human oversight. You can upload a batch of photos and have the AI edit them for you, automatically adjusting the lighting and cropping, for example. One way to think about it is as a new school AI tool that you can use to do old-school, or non-generative, editing.

Adobe has been building assistants into its creative software for a while now. It introduced AI assistants in Adobe Express and Photoshop back in October. Agentic AI tools like the kind Adobe is building are becoming rapidly popular across the entire AI industry, with tools like Claude Code and OpenClaw shaking up legacy tech companies.

Microsoft Raises Prices of Surface Laptops Amid Memory Shortage Kenneth Kwok

From PC Mag: The ongoing memory chip shortage has caused yet another laptop manufacturer to raise prices. As reported by Windows Central, prices for Microsoft Surface laptops have increased by $100 to $300, depending on the model. The revised prices are now live on the Microsoft Store, mainly affecting Snapdragon-powered laptops.

The 2024 Surface Laptop (13.8-inch) and Surface Pro (13-inch) were among the first Microsoft devices to feature Snapdragon X-series processors. Both models were launched at $999, with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as the base configuration. They now start at $1,499, with 512GB as the minimum storage option.

The 15-inch Surface Laptop is also getting a price hike. The Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptop launched at $1,299 in 2024, increased to $1,499 in 2025, and now starts at $1,599 for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration.

Among the models launched last year, the 12-inch Surface Pro now starts at $1,049, up $250 from its launch price of $799. The 13-inch Surface Laptop, meanwhile, has gone from $899 to $1,199.

Microsoft explains why it killed Windows phone activation

Microsoft explains why it killed Windows phone activation Kenneth Kwok

From PC World: Microsoft recently published a new support page with an explanation of why it discontinued telephone activation of Windows: “Beginning December 3, 2025, the traditional telephone-based product activation automation process has been moved from telephone to online. […] The new digital workflow provides a more secure, reliable, and user‑friendly activation experience and helps prevent fraud.”

Anyone who calls the phone number used for Windows activation is now informed by a robotic voice that activation is now only possible online and that they should visit aka.ms/aoh.

In other words, while the specific PC on which you want to activate Windows doesn’t necessarily need to be connected to the internet, the license activation itself must be done online via the product activation portal using a secondary device such as a smartphone, tablet, or PC that’s connected to the internet. A Microsoft account is required, but it doesn’t need to be linked to the Windows PC.

Disappearing Macs? Global RAM Supply Crisis Likely Hits Apple

Disappearing Macs? Global RAM Supply Crisis Likely Hits Apple Kenneth Kwok

From CNET: Several high-end Apple computers are sold out on the company's online store, and there's no indication when they'll be back in stock. Multiple RAM-intensive configurations of the M4 Mac Mini and Mac Studio are now listed as "currently unavailable."

The affected configurations include the 32GB and 64GB RAM options for the Mac Mini and the 128GB and 256GB options for the Mac Studio. Meanwhile, the available configurations for these computers are experiencing shipping delays, with Apple's official listings citing up to 18 weeks.

This isn't a uniquely Apple problem. Some manufacturers warn that the global RAM shortage, driven by the surge in demand for generative AI tools, will persist until at least 2030. With more than 70% of the global RAM supply earmarked for use by AI-compute corporate giants, stocking issues are a common sight across the computing industry right now, with prices for phones and laptops rising amid the supply crisis.

Lenovo Legion Go 2 Gets Another Price Hike, 2TB Model Now Costs $2,850

Lenovo Legion Go 2 Gets Another Price Hike, 2TB Model Now Costs $2,850 Kenneth Kwok

From PC Mag: The Lenovo Legion Go 2 price is skyrocketing, and the latest hike hits the best version money can buy.

The 2TB handheld with 32GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme originally cost $1,479.99, but it's now $2,849.99 on Lenovo’s website. That’s up $1,370 from its launch price in October last year, an over 92% price increase.

If you're desperate for the 2TB model, act quickly, as one retailer is still selling at the lower price. As spotted by NotebookCheck, B&H continues to sell at $1,849.99, saving you $1,000 compared with Lenovo's direct pricing.

It’s unclear how long this stock will last, and it may mean B&H raises its price once its existing inventory is sold out. PCMag was unable to find the handheld at other retailers, with both Best Buy and Costco out of stock at the time of publication.

Acrobat Reader has an unpatched zero-day. Stop opening unknown PDFs Kenneth Kwok

From PC World: According to BleepingComputer, there’s a serious vulnerability in Acrobat Reader that can be exploited to steal sensitive data.

Security researcher Haifei Li says that hackers have been abusing this “highly sophisticated, fingerprinting-style PDF exploit” since December, meaning just over four months.

“This ‘fingerprinting’ exploit has been confirmed to leverage a zero-day/unpatched vulnerability that works on the latest version of Adobe Reader without requiring any user interaction beyond opening a PDF file. Even more concerning, this exploit allows the threat actor to not only collect/steal local information but also potentially launch subsequent RCE/SBX attacks, which could lead to full control of the victim’s system.”

In short, all it takes is opening an infected PDF file to expose your system to an attacker. From there, the attacker could steal your data or even run their own code and take full control of your machine.

Apple Reportedly Testing AI Glasses in Several Frame Styles

Apple Reportedly Testing AI Glasses in Several Frame Styles Kenneth Kwok

From CNET: It looks like we'll be able to pick a style of Apple smart glasses that suits our tastes. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported Sunday that Apple is testing at least four frame styles to rival those of smart-glasses maker Meta. The company is also reportedly working on a new camera setup for its first foray into smart glasses.

Apple's design team has created at least four styles that'll be available in multiple color options, Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter. According to Gurman, the designs include a large rectangular frame similar to Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a slimmer rectangular style, a larger oval or circular design and a smaller oval or circular option.

Apple is also reportedly considering a camera setup with vertically oriented oval lenses with surrounding lights -- another design feature intended to differentiate Apple's product from its rivals, such as Meta, the biggest maker of smart glasses right now. The goal for the frames is reportedly to create an instantly recognizable design.

Research released in March by Counterpoint Research suggests the smart glasses category is still in its early stages. The tech market research firm reported that the smart glasses market grew 139% year-over-year in the second half of 2025, compared with 2024. And Meta's AI smart glasses portfolio gets credit for the growth.

FSP MEGA TI 1650W Report (Page 1 of 4)
FSP MEGA TI 1650W Report
Jonathan Kwan

By: Jonathan Kwan
April 10, 2026

I traveled to Vancouver for a vacation a few weeks ago. One of the items on my list was to visit the local office for the company I work for, as I have some friends there. My wife thought it was strange that I would show up to work while I am on my time off, but to me, it is not work if I get to hang out with friends. I ended up talking to way more people than I expected as word got around, but one of the more interesting conversations I have had was the idea of having the mindset of excellence. I shared about the importance of being excellent in every way, as our standard should be benchmarked against the best in the world and not necessarily just the people we know. And while we may or may not be rewarded for it, we have nothing to lose in the end, because the worst that could happen to us is we level up in our skills. I believe this mindset can be applied in more than just our careers, and it seems FSP had this in mind when they designed the MEGA TI power supply. The MEGA TI not only pushes the limits of power output at 1650W, which is the most powerful PSU we have ever reviewed here at APH Networks, but also top tier when it comes to certifications, including 80 Plus Titanium and Cybenetics ETA Titanium for efficiency and Cybenetics LAMBDA A++ for noise. This usually means an obscenely long dimensions and price, but the MEGA TI comes in a surprisingly reasonable package at only 18.0cm deep, and you can pick one up for just $450. FSP also throws in a few surprises, like a conformal coating for reliable operation harsh environments. Did FSP just build the best PSU in the world? How did they do it? I took one apart to find out.

Our review unit of the FSP MEGA TI 1650W arrived in a medium-sized brown corrugated cardboard box from the company's American headquarters in Chino, California, USA. Using UPS Standard, our MEGA TI 1650W arrived in excellent condition to us here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for our review today.

Inside the shipping box is the FSP MEGA TI 1650W's retail box. As you can see in our photo, the photo of the power supply itself is shown prominently across the front with a shadow glow on the predominantly black box to give it an air of sophistication. Otherwise, a shiny FSP logo is printed at the top left corner, while the MEGA TI branding and 1650W rating is seen at the bottom. Some arrays of icons show off its features. The right array includes an 80 Plus Titanium badge, Cybenetics Titanium certification, and Cybenetics Lambda A++ certification. The left array includes Japanese brand bulk capacitor, full modular design, and 10-year warranty. There is a plastic handle at the top for you to easily carry the box. The remaining sides have a little more detail in presentation, which you will find the modular cable configuration, more photos, specifications highlights in various languages, and a power output table.

Before we move on, let us take a look at the specifications of the FSP MEGA TI 1650W, as obtained from the manufacturer's website:

Model: MEGA-1650TI
Rated Output Power: 1650W
Form Factor: ATX12V V3.1
80 PLUS Certification: Titanium
Cybenetics Certification: Titanium
Cybenetics Lambda: A++
Input Voltage: 110-240V
Input Current: 10-15A
Input Frequency: 50-60Hz
PFC: ≧ 0.9
Efficiency(at typical load): ≥94% at typical load

Dimensions(L x W x H): 180×150×86 mm
Operation Temp.: 50°C
Protection: OVP, OCP, OPP, OTP, SCP, UVP, SIP, NLO
Warranty: 10 Years

The FSP MEGA TI 1650W's retail package can be opened by a flap along the top. Upon opening the box, you will find everything neatly organized in environmentally friendly cardboard packaging. The power supply is securely clipped between two cardboard brackets. Out of the box, you will receive the MEGA TI 1650W power supply itself, modular cables, AC power cable, four thumbscrews, three Velcro straps, power supply jump starter, cable combs of various sizes, and a product manual. Everything is presented well and appropriate for a PSU of this class.

Epomaker Luma100 Review

April 10, 2026

For those of you who know me, you may know that I have recently switched careers. After working so hard as a warehouse worker and lifting heavy weights like a big burly man, I have since transitioned to an office job. I will say, the transition into a downtown office from a semi-rural warehouse was a lot smoother than expected, with little to no hiccups along the way. For my first day, I found that the public transportation was adequate, and finding my office building was not too hard. As for my coworkers, they were also great. I find that there are nice tradeoffs when it comes to working downtown. Despite the transportation taking a little longer, it does give me time to mentally prepare myself for my day. Furthermore, just being downtown gives me access to grabbing lunch with all of my downtown friends. Generally speaking, there is not much for me to complain about except when it comes to my office keyboard. If you are experiencing the same issues as me in your office job, this week we have the Epomaker Luma100, a 96% low profile keyboard that has all the keys necessary for those who need to do tasks behind their desks. Will this keyboard be worth the effort to bring into the office? Keep reading to find out!

Our review unit of the Epomaker Luma100 came alongside the HE108, TH80 V2 Pro, TH80 V2, and RT100 Pro in a tightly wrapped in a plastic that covered many layers of bubble wrap underneath. The box was shipped to us here in Calgary, Alberta from Shenzhen, China via eMile Express. The shipping process was good, with no visible impact on the retail box. I was not worried about the condition of the product itself, as there was no noticeable damage.

The Epomaker Luma100’s box design is aesthetically pleasing, using a black and blue exterior. The front displays Luma100 name on the bottom left. Epomaker’s logo is placed on the top left. We find a general render of the keyboard beside the logo with a few features listed below it. The back mentions some additional information. This is a straightforward design that offers very minimal, but relevant, information. Personally, I do not mind this, as I appreciate the lack of clutter and simplicity.

Before we continue, here are the specifications for the Epomaker Luma100, as specified by the manufacturer’s website:

Model: LUMA100
Layout: 96% ANSI US Layout
Number of Keys: 100 Keys
Battery: 3000mAh
Connectivity: Tri-Mode Wireless (2.4Ghz/BT/USB Wired)
Compatibility: Mac/WIN/Android
Front Height: 23mm
Back Height: 25.5mm
Case Material: Anodized Aluminum
Plate Material: PC
Stabilizers: Gateron Low-Profile Stabilizers
Mounting Structure: Gasket-Mount
Sound Dampening: Sandwich Foam, Switch Pad, Sound-Enhancement Pad, Switch Socket Foam, Bottom Sound-Absorbing Foam
Keycaps Profile: DSA Low-Profile
Keycaps Material: ABS Plastic
Keycaps Manufacturing Technique: Double-shot
Hot-Swappable: Yes, the LUMA100 keyboard is hot-swappable with Low Profile Switches
RGB: Per-Key North-Facing LEDs
Polling Rate: 1000hz (USB/2.4Ghz) or 125hz (BT)
Keyboard Dimensions: 37.1cm in Length, 12.85cm in Width, 2.55cm in Height on the ESC side, and 1.65cm in Height on the Spacebar side
Keyboard Weight: 0.62kg

Out of the box, you will receive the Epomaker Luma100 keyboard with a cable, extra switches, additional feet, carrying case, and a user manual. The keyboard is wrapped in plastic to prevent any surface scratches. I was satisfied when it came to packaging. The quality of the packaging was good, but could benefit from the use of foam.

Ad-Free Prime Video Just Got More Expensive, Lower Tier Drops Big Perk

Ad-Free Prime Video Just Got More Expensive, Lower Tier Drops Big Perk Kenneth Kwok

From PC Mag: Effective today, Amazon is raising the price of its ad-free streaming service and stripping 4K support from those with an ad-supported Prime Video plan.

As the company first outlined last month, banishing ads from Prime Video will cost $4.99 per month in the US on top of the annual or monthly cost of Prime, up from $2.99 per month. The ad-free tier has also been rebranded as Prime Video Ultra.

Amazon tips "enhanced features" for Ultra subscribers, but what caught our eye was that the Ultra subscription includes "exclusive access to 4K/UHD streaming." That’s concerning, since ad-supported Prime Video currently supports up to 4K (Ultra HD) on TVs. However, an image in Amazon’s announcement shows 4K/UHD missing as a feature for the base subscription, which is bundled as a "free" perk with an Amazon Prime subscription.

From PC World: In the new Chrome versions 147.0.7727.55/56 for Windows and macOS and 147.0.7727.55 for Linux, the developers have patched 60 security vulnerabilities.
