Majority D100 Bookshelf Speakers Review

INTRODUCTION

Bookshelf speakers have long been the sweet spot for listeners who want compact size without sacrificing sonic presence. Designed to fit neatly on desks, shelves, or stands, they balance clarity, warmth, and versatility, serving equally well for music, movies, or casual listening. Unlike larger floor-standing models, their appeal lies in delivering a focused soundstage that thrives in smaller rooms. Over the years, powered bookshelf speakers have become especially popular, eliminating the need for external amplifiers, and simplifying setup for everyday users. Today’s focus is on the D100 Bookshelf speakers which Majority Audio released late last year.

Majority began in 2012 as a classic start-up story: two guys, one garage, and an idea. Take our founders, PJ and Eddie, throw in a few buckets of energy, a warehouse worth of open-mindedness and a living room crammed with ambition. Top that off with plenty of the nation’s favourite fuel (tea of course) and you have Majority. Since founding, we’ve grown from two guys working out of a living room to a team of over 40 with offices across the UK, and we’ve never looked back.

The Majority Audio D100 Bookshelf speakers deliver 100WRMS of output (50+50) and are built around a 3-driver sound system which allows them to deliver a frequency response of 40Hz–20kHz (according to some distributors - Majority only lists 30Hz) and an impedance of 8Ω, giving them the range to handle deep bass while maintaining clarity across the mids and highs. Connectivity is a standout feature since the D100 support Bluetooth v5.3 for stable wireless streaming, alongside HDMI ARC, optical, USB (charging and MP3/WMA playback - up to 2TB capacity flash drives supported), AUX, and RCA inputs, plus a dedicated phono input for turntables. This flexibility allows seamless integration with pretty much any TV, computer, and hi-fi setup. Each of the speakers measure 17x18.2x27.5cm and weighs 6.8 kg, striking a balance between desktop usability and room-filling presence. An aluminum remote control is included for easy adjustments, while the solid wooden cabinet design adds a touch of style to its functional build. With Xtra Bass tuning and powered amplification, the D100 Bookshelf Speakers aim to deliver immersive stereo sound without the need for external gear.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

Typically, at the front of the box we find a large product picture right under the company logo and over the main product features.

The 3-year warranty registration is showcased on the right side.

At the rear Majority has placed one more product picture right over the main product features.

Along with the D100 Bookshelf speakers and their remote inside the box you'll also find the speaker connection cable, power cable, warranty paper and the user manual.

THE D100

The 6.8Kg heavy D100 enclosures are made of solid wood and measure 275mm in height, 182mm in length and 170mm in width.

Majority has chosen to use a 3-way design for the D100 so at the front we find a tweeter, midrange and woofer drives and a bass port.

On the right of the main speaker, we find three control knobs for input/volume, tremble and bass levels.

Majority has given the D100 a nice wooden and leather like finish.

Both speakers have the speaker port at the rear but the main speaker also has an 3.5mm audio input, USB port (charging, MP3/WMA playback), optical input, 3.5mm headphones output, stereo RCA input, HDMI ARC, on/off switch and the power port.

Even though the exterior of the remote is made of aluminum what matters is that it has every button you'd need.

CONCLUSION

Just like with most if not all products out there whenever I start testing a pair of speakers I always start by looking at cost because let's face it, you can't expect the same audio performance from a pair of $100 speakers and a pair of $500 speakers. Majority has always done a good job in that regard, yes, for the most part build quality has always been just “ok” for many of their products (they need to cut corners somewhere to compete with larger manufacturers), but they’ve all performed better than expected and yes, the same applies for the D100. Mids and highs are quite crisp and accurate (detail and soundstage could be better – these aren’t Hi-Res after all), lows are acceptable and as for volume levels they are more than sufficient to fill one large room. Needless to say, everything depends on the source (and input) you’ll be using and strangely enough the R7 player by FiiO actually performed better with the D100 compared to their R9. Design-wise the D100 may not stand out while the covers are on, but I don’t expect that to be a game changer for potential buyers.

Right now, the D100 Bookshelf Speakers by Majority retail for USD113.95 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 140.62Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) so they are certainly affordable. Overall, I don’t have any complaints from the D100 Bookshelf Speakers by Majority, they perform well and don’t ask for a lot in return. Yes, they are not award winning material and if you’re looking for something that stands out both in audio performance and looks the D100 may not be that but I strongly recommend them to people on a tight budget, they might just be what you’re looking for.

The US is throwing big money at rare-earth tech, taking on China's dominance with new chemistry

23 November 2025 at 18:44

Rare-earth elements are embedded deep within much of today's hardware stack, but the real bottleneck is no longer geological reserves – it is the industrial circuitry that converts ore and scrap into high-purity oxides and finished magnets. Smartphones, high-torque electric-vehicle motors, direct-drive wind turbines, and advanced medical imaging all rely...

Steam is now a billion-dollar side business for PlayStation

23 November 2025 at 16:12

Until recently, Sony had largely treated Steam as a secondary outlet for older PlayStation titles, primarily single-player games that had already maximized their sales on console. But if Valve releases mainstream hardware that runs Steam natively and becomes a viable home for PlayStation Studios releases, Sony's PC strategy could be...
